Five year finance on a six year old car:eek:.
I don't think finance companies should be allowed to offer finance that ends when a car is 11 years old.
I'll be honest and say that we never really thought of it that way at the time and with regards to that, you live and you learn. Definitely a mistake that I won't be making again.0 -
Slightly confused as how I'm being ungrateful? Nice welcome to the forum.0

agree it could be somthing simple as a alternator, battery, or the ground on the gearbox for the battery has worn through and broken off.
even recon alternators can have faults 18 months down the line, it happens sometimes.0 -

Because of the way it broke down, GF said it wasn't the battery. Alternater was brand new and blimmin' expensive so I really hope it's not that. Regardless, it is out of our price range at the minute.0 -

even maindealer alternators are recons upto a certain age of vehicle i.e less than 2 years old approx.
your would have been an recon, even the supplying garage would have had to send your old one back and that would get put back into re-circulation after recon at a manufacturers.
they are dear, but you should shop around at places for the best deals.
to the symptoms you describe it sounds like something in the charging system is either loose worn or broken, aleternator, battery, ground or live connection draining the system.
bro in laws fiesta had these sypmtoms and was a dead alternator, started, then dies, started then died, all due to the faulty alternator, throwing all sorts of lights on dash as it was dying.0 -
I'm going with failed alternator and flat battery.
Also, it seems hit and miss with any car these days - friends have had 5 year old German cars with all sorts of issues, and other friends 15 year old British cars that have run and run.
Recon alternators are very hit and miss, sometimes the original fault wasn't fixed properly and the issue re-appears after a few months. After all, a recon is a repaired, previously faulty unit (usually)0 -
I agree it is probably a simple electrical fault, but before you do anything drastic, get it checked over by your local, friendly independent.
If you try to do a voluntary termination now, they will hammer you for additional costs as it clearly, currently, isn't in good order.0
