What to do around Euston Station for around 6 hours overnight with a child

Not sure if i've posted this on the right board but here goes. Its probably over 30 years now since I last went to London so i'm not very street wise. My 12 year son has won a place in a football tournament at Wembley on 29th June and I need to get him there for around 9am. I've been searching the net for cheap train travel from the North West and it seems that the best option is to buy single tickets. I've booked the outward leg already and managed to get this at a cost of £18 for the two of us travelling from Manchester Picadilly (cost is of the essence!) and I think i should be able to get a ticket back to our local station for around £27 for the two of us. Some of the returns fares were astronomical on price.
I still need to sort out transport between Euston and Wembley (but from what I can gather, I should be able to get a day travel card for around £15.90 for the two of us to travel anytime). The route I was thinking about was Euston to Marlybone by tube and then Marlybone to Wembley Stadium by ordinary train (unless anyone has any better suggestions).
My other problem is that my train from Manchester gets into Euston at around midnight and i'll only need to start the leg of my trip to Wembley in the early hours. How can I pass the few hours from midnight to around 6am with a 12 year old around Euston station. I could do without having to spend money on a hotel but at the same time, could do with him getting at least a few hours sleep so that he will be able to do his football trials. Thanks for your help.

A 12 year old child needs to sleep for more than a few hours and in a bed.
Look around for some cheap deals in a Travel Lodge type hotel.0 -
If you get into London before midnight and can get across to Wembley while public transport is still running the Wembley Travelodge has rooms on that date for £45.75.0

With a 12-year old I wouldn't want to be out and about anywhere after midnight until 6am, so I'd be looking to book a hotel.
There are several Tune hotels in London now, maybe one of those would suit? Or a youth hostel -

Or one of the university rooms, just run a quick search and there are a few rooms available on 28th June (no idea of the areas though, I'm not from London) -

Just a quick thought - Euston Square station is only a couple of minutes away on foot, and is on the Metropolitan line, which will take you directly to Wembley Park Station. Should be about 20 minutes.
Honestly, suck it up and pay for the Travelodge over at Wembley. Call them when you book it and make sure they know that you will be arriving after midnight, get email confirmation too (some places will give available rooms to people stuck after gigs at the arena etc), so make sure you have confirmed late arrival, so it doesn't get given to someone else. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Seriously? You can't spend a night on the street with a child in Euston, what on earth are you thinking?
It's only going to take 20-30 mins to get to Wembley from Euston you'll be hanging around from midnight to at least 8am.
Either spend money on a cheap hotel room or a train that gets you into London by 8am on the day.
Your son isn't going to do very well in the tournament if he's been sleeping rough the night before, if that's what you really intend doing, save your money and don't bother going.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
If you are a single adult there are lots of fun things you could do around Euston to pass the time - but not with a 12 yr old in tow! Get some sleep in a proper bed. Even if you think you can cope without it, your son won't - especially if he has to play in a football tournament the next day.
The Wembley Travelodge isn't really convenient for the stadium. I'd suggest the Premier Inn instead which is right next to Wembley Park Tube: http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/WEMPTI/london-wembley-stadium?cmp=GLBC
I know this is a Money Saving website but sometimes the most sensible idea to to put your hand into your pocket and pay the money.0 -

Absolutely, grab a room! Once stayed up at Edinburgh station overnight to get the first train to Glasgow in the morning .
The night lasted a thousand years.:(
Tube and train finish between 12 and 1AM but night buses keep going till the regular service picks up (but you'd need two buses to reach Wembley.
This website tells you when the last trains and tubes run.
There's a London Midland train (to Northampton) at 12,28 that'll get you to Wembley Central in 20 minutes.
Use the tfl website too.

I understand that money may be an issue here but I have to agree with other posters that a hotel is the best option.
As someone else mentioned, the travelodge isn't particularly convenient for the stadium on foot. Have a look at the Ibis Wembley which is right next door. On the 28th they have rooms for £69, although with moneysaving in mind, it can be booked through Expedia with a 10% off code for £62.10.
Is your train the one at gets into Euston at 23:48? If so there is a direct train to Wembley Central that leaves Euston at 23:57 and takes 21 minutes. From there the ibis is a 10min walk.0 -
Another option is to check whether your train stops to let passengers off at Watford Junction (some of the Virgin trains do). Overnight in Watford near the station then take the London Overground to Wembey Central the next morning. It's a 20 minute walk form Wembley Central to Wembley Park.0

The Kings Cross Youth Hostel is just down the road from Euston Station, a Hoilday Inn opposite and a host of hotels towards Russell Square. It is likely if you are seen "hanging around" with a young boy in Euston Station that you may well be approached by unsavoury characters and I would imagine the police may become interested in you. I think the best solution would be to get to Wembley and stay overnight in a hotel there.......Euston is not a place to be in the early hours.SallyD0
