Digital dislay is fine, but when I clicked the green analogue button at the top. I got this, about 1 hour 52 mins fast (or 13 hours 52 mins fast!)

It displays my 'location' as Glasgow, with correct analogue and digital times, if that's any help....

Take a closer look at that screenshot - your system clock appears to be precisely one hour ahead of the time shown on the web site, as one would expect if they're not taking BST into account.

A temporary glitch, perhaps?

Well spotted; it must be a glitch as it's not supposed to be like the clock on bbc.co.uk
(I'm still on the original 10-y-o CMOS battery, which won't hold a charge overnight)

Heat only makes things worse. What you're seeing is the effect on the system of being connected to a live power outlet; the little lithium cell on the motherboard is just a backup.

Disconnect the power and the system will retain its charge for a while before going completely kaput, which is one of the reasons we're told to take the greatest of care when poking around inside the things.

I always thought glass was a good insulator; I was shocked to read there that it can hold a lethal charge (pun intended!)
How about wearing rubber gloves when fiddling inside? Would they also obviate the need for an earthing strap?
