7 million people face money woes(7 working million)

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/7m-working-adults-face-money-woes-233615680.html

Almost seven million adults of working age are struggling financially, finding it difficult to feed themselves and their families despite working full-time, it has been reported.
Around 3.6 million households say they are unable to cope on their income and have no assets or savings to fall back on, leaving them vulnerable if they face a sudden large expenditure, according to an Experian study for the Guardian.

It is about time that people learned to adapt their lifestyle to their income rather than winge about how their income is not enough to support their lifestyle.
Smoking, drinking, holidays, X-box's etc are not essentials, they are luxuries that should only be indulged in if there is enough money left after real essentials.
I get fed up hearing about how poor a friend of mine claims to be but that does not stop her having the best smart phone, laptop, mp3 player and top of the range Kindle.

it adds to 6 out of 10 working people are in poverty by higher debt than capital or minimum monthly payment only on cc and working is now seen as not the answer to get out of povery as more people who dont work dont have this problem
super dooper tory policy to encourage people to work
  • This is what is happening in the real world, not MrRees fairytale land. I am a big supporter of austerity on the one hand, but I see the patients dying on the operating theatre.
And it's all very well people like me preaching on austerity when there is food on my table every night, and I have done on many occasions, but I have issues on how this is now being done.

Europe is not going to go on with these austerity cuts for a decade, thats what they are asking off Greece with all they have already gone through.

There is some real pain out there

With all respect, and I do see where you are coming from in some cases, your view is a little to simplistic, and you are talking to someone that has allways worked and is regarded as a quill and ink man, in other words I will be the last person on the planet to get the latest gizmo, I still refuse out of principal to get a sat nav:)

But there are a huge number of people(working) who never saw the last boom, and live from pay cheque to pay cheque. I have a far bigger problem with many of the so called city sq mile elite type that squandered Billions and caused problems that the lower end of the food chain are now paying the price for.

I have had to put up with those increases as well and as of this week my income in the last 12 months has dropped 100%
I lost my permenant full time job this time last year and have been unable to get another one, in the meantime, JSA has expired and I do not qualify for any benefits of any kind so income at the moment is exactly zero.

Tell me now to get my priorities in order.

I start a temporary job next month but it will only last 6 weeks, I need to make the earnings from that last as long as possible so I will not be wasting a penny of those earnings as I have no idea where or when the next job will come along.

People who are profligate spenders clearly need to rein in their spending, I don't argue with that, but they aren't the only people affected.

Where I work I have taken an 8% pay cut. This doesn't affect me too much as I have other sources of income as I also run my own business. However for those who are there and many are on low wages (typically c£15-16k full time) that's a huge fall. It's tough when you can barely afford to run your car but you need it to get to work. So if it suddenly fails its MOT they will struggle to find hundreds of pounds to put things right. This scenario is being played out across the country.

  • Oh cry me a river.
If your income is insufficient, there are 2 options. Spend less or earn more. Or both.
I remember my early twenties, juggling two jobs and working most weekends for many years, while my wife, newborn son and myself were living in a 1 bed terraced.
Said it before and I'll say it again : The pampered generation has come of age and it clearly is a shock for many of them.

More than 10% of the UK population are finding it difficult to feed themselves? Sounds like BS.

I wonder if they also recorded the BMI's of these people or asked them what Sky package they subscribe to. I doubt it because then we'd get a better picture of what's really happening and that just wouldn't do.
