You can call free the HEAT project team on 0800 093 4050 (their site is: http://heatproject.uknetweb.com/index.php)
or get in touch with your local county council. Newcastle city council is 0191 232 8520

Thanks for this..........have done a bit of research and understand that the insulation is very thick these days and some peeps don't advise boarding on top. If this is the case, whilst I can see the need for a larger access, there isn't much point putting in a fitted loft ladder is there?
Or is there something I'm missing here?0 -
250mm is the thickness in new homes now. Makes boarding out of the question as the supports are usually 100mm.

Thanks..... really helpful.......... and reading through a few of the threads I have come to the conclusion that I won't board it or go to the expense of a loft ladder. I don't plan to live here very long so don't need the storage but still want the insulation.
I presume that I'll still need to improve on the size of the access though. Unless the isulation can be taken up it 1' squares!!0
