House sellers asking for money to leave carpets/blinds etc

Why would you want their old stuff anyway...certainly not at THAT ridiculous price.
Just tell them you can't afford it and your mother or whoever is buying you all new carpets and blinds as a moving in present.0 -
i think some of the previous posters have got it spot on ... they are chancing their arm with this one.
I would be very polite and say that you just can't afford the prices they have quoted (as you have paid top whack for the house), and in any case, if you were able to pay, you have concerns that the HMRC would be rather interested because of the stamp duty threshold...0 -
Haha, what an absolute joke. Tell them to get stuffed.0

What a dilemma. Who has the upper hand?0

The buyers. 100%.0 -
In my opinion it's the buyer who now has the upper hand. The prices quoted for their second-hand carpets and curtains etcetera are a ruddy joke. There's also a risk that HMC will consider the buyer paying so very much for those F&F will take the whole purchase up over the stamp-duty threshhold. That would make someone else's second-hand stair-carpet very expensive indeed.
Also, not being able to test taps or go in the garage bodes very ill indeed. Those people have all the hall-marks of those who will strip the place out of spite if you don't play the game and cough up.0 -
Send a letter back saying the offer is reduced due to house prices falling by 1.4% per month until completion.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I'm also in the 'tell them to get stuffed' camp.
But....TBH....if they'd told me in the viewing that I couldn't inspect part of the house or test the basic utilities I would have left there and then.0 -

exactly.
I assume the OP has now had these looked at or examined them themselves? :eek:0 -
I'd be wondering what's in the garage and what's wrong with the plumbing.
