Oh and just to add, its likely to be the alcohol in the wipes which is affecting your eyes if your OK with other skincare brands (creams and cleansers and so on). It could be that there is too much alcohol in the wipes you've used or it could be the wipes are a bit to abrasive or scratchy and then when you apply alcohol to the scratched skin- no matter how minor the scratches are, its going to sting and go red.

    Just an idea.

Could it be the mascara rather than the wipes? I had the same problem with some mascara a couple of years ago. Seems strange after two years of using the same wipes you have suddenly got a reaction. Have you tried using the wipes without any make-up on to see if you get the same effect?

Maybe Simple facial wash then a mild toner would be an option. Find Simple very good (my DS uses this when his ecxema flares up on his face and works well).

    Good luck

I dont think it is the mascara. I stopped all make up at 1 point. Then just wore loose powder with some blusher.
I didnt use any wipes at all. I went away for the weekend and stupidly started using the wipes again. My eye flared up again.
Although its not as red, or inflamed it's still watery.

I've just switched from facial wipes to Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean. Wow, what a difference!

I had read that the wipes don't remove all the makeup properly and leave behind a grubby residue. It must be true because the first time I used the Soap and Glory my face looked and felt so much better. It smells gorgeous too. I also have sensitive skin and this product has been fine.

Sorry that the above makes me sound like a representative for the company, but I can assure you I'm not. Just a bit of a fan. I've even converted my daughters.

Olive oil is great as a makeup remover, even tough waterproof mascara. Just a few drops rubbed in (close your eyes, though a bit of oil in the eye isn't going to do any harm) and then wiped off with a warm flannel/muslin cloth, I've found it better than any makeup wipes.
Another one I've discovered recently (out of being too lazy to go and fetch the oive oil) is hair conditioner. I have a bottle that leaves too much residue in my hair, even with thorough rinsing, so it's sat in the cupboard unused (shame to bin it as it's a half decent brand). I figured I'd give it a try and it definately does the job, and leaves my face smelling fruity as a bonus too!
  • I have been suffering an allergic reaction that got so severe I had to see a consultant at Moorfield's Eye Hospital. I was told my red, sore, inflamed and watery eyes were due to an allergic reaction to something in my environment. I was prescribed allergy and steroid eye drops that helped for a week or so but then, even with using the drops, the reaction came back again.
Two weeks ago I paid to have an allergy test at a private hospital and they tested for foods and chemicals and I tested positive to Quaternium 15 and PPD. I was then told to stop using all personal care products and gradually introduce ones that do not contain these chemicals and any derivitives including formaldehyde.
This has been a long arduous process as so far I have found as many as SIXTY, chemical names that are used by different companies for just these two substances.
After taking the advice of the hospital and eliminating and gradually re-introducing all my personal care products everything was going fine and my eyes have gradually been getting better until last night after checking the ingredients list on the back of my Lacura 3 in 1 Facial Cleansing Wipes for sensitive skin that I purchased from Aldi, and not finding any mention of the two chemicals, I decided to take a chance and use them again and I woke up this morning to find my eyes red, swollen and sore with tiny blisters under my eyes.

I have just phoned Aldi's head office and explained what has happened so hopefully someone will look into this and maybe see if there is a case for withdrawing this product. I have always been a healthy person and I have never had allergies before. I can't say for sure that it is just these wipes that have caused this problem for me and I am not suggesting everyone will have the same reaction as me, but maybe, if you are suffering from the same problem it might be best to stop using these wipes.

After about 7 weeks of itchy inflamed and red eyes, I think I have narrowed my problem down to a facial wipe allergy. I have been reading about how bad they are.
I am looking for suggestions of what products I can use to remove make up. I was recommended Liz Earle, it is however a bit pricey

I second olive oil on cotton wool balls and we usually have some in. In fact I use it as a night moisturiser a couple of times a week. Put it on when your face is damp soaks in better then.

    .

My eye cleared up and i again introduced things gradually. I used the Aldi wipes and it started to make the eye sore again.

I have been using baby lotion or body shop vitamin e cleanser.:)

  • I've dug up an old topic here (sorry) but I awoke this morning to find i'd had an allergic reaction to Primark's exfoliating face wipes (with cucumber extract), all under my eyes are red raw sore and burning, I have taken piriton and cooled with ice but thought i'd put out a warning on here and swap back to simple wipes..
  • Someone once told me wipes were bad for the skin cuz they drag over your skin. I use a facial wash seems kinder to skin and defo saves money - i think wipes, like liquid soaps are a rip-off. mogs
