Allergy to Facial Wipes

After about 7 weeks of itchy inflamed and red eyes, I think I have narrowed my problem down to a facial wipe allergy. I have been reading about how bad they are.
I am looking for suggestions of what products I can use to remove make up. I was recommended Liz Earle, it is however a bit pricey

I use Simple Eye Makeup Remover on cotton pads. Works fine to take off foundation etc too, definitely not just for eye makeup! Not a fan of makeup wipes, they don't seem to work as well in my experience.Kate.0

Just try aqueous cream and water (use it like soap).0

Any hypo-allergenic, chemical free product should be OK but, if you don't know exactly what ingredient you are sensitive to, you may have to try a few before getting one that's right for you.
Stick to things specifically for eyes. They are generally designed to not make the eyes smart (think of shampoo - fine on head but hell in the eyes) so better to use something designed specifically for the eye area.0 -
Have you narrowed it down to a specific brand of facial wipe? It could help when looking for products to substitute as you'd be looking for certain ingredient rather then an entire product.
I just wondered if you'd tried the Kleenex wipes? You can get then dry to be soaked in water or presoaked and then test them on the crook of your elbow or behind your ears, they are both easier to deal with if you do see a reaction but the wipes themselves are quite different to other wipes and I find them even more gentle then baby wipes (though not as efficient at cleaning so you may need a little eye makeup remover when going around your eyes)0 -
I have been using Aldi (blue packet) wipes for at least two years. Have been fine with them. Then this problem started. I didnt wear any makeup for about 10 days. Eye started to improve.Started using a small amount of mascara (rimmel) at the weekend, went back to the wipes and it set the eye off again.
I cant be 100% sure it's the wipes but I am guessing so.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
I have very sensitive skin, especially around the eyes. I used to use the wipes but since having a break from them my skin is so much better.
I use a hot cloth cleansing method and use either plain almond oil or Lush's Ultrabland just with hot water and a flannel and all make up comes off very easily and my skin is really good now.
If I have to use wipes (night away etc), my skin really complains now! I think the wipes tend to just move dirt around on your skin rather than truly cleanse.0 -
In my local Boots yesterday they had a 2 in 1 Vitamin E own brand cleansing lotion on sale for £1.27 so well worth a try if your local store has it0

Could it be the mascara rather than the wipes? I had the same problem with some mascara a couple of years ago. Seems strange after two years of using the same wipes you have suddenly got a reaction. Have you tried using the wipes without any make-up on to see if you get the same effect?
Maybe Simple facial wash then a mild toner would be an option. Find Simple very good (my DS uses this when his ecxema flares up on his face and works well).
Good luck0 -
Face wipes usually sting me a bit on my skin and sometimes eyes.
I found using babywipes solved it (reluctantly tried it at my mum's once when I stayed over and had naff all to get makeup off with). Currently using Pampers ones - 80 in a pack I think, and there was an offer on with them. I use them for removing makeup - including eye makeup - and never have a problem. Always have a good rinse with water afterwards anyway. Far nicer than face wipes, and so much cheaper!

Facial wipes are one of the biggest rip-offs in the world of beauty anyway so definitely very MSE if you won't be using them anymore! I only use them for travel.
If you just use eye makeup, Vichy do an eye makeup remover that works brilliantly.
The thing I've used most recently that worked best on my whole face (foundation and all!) was the Day Normalizing Oil by Dr Hauschka, but that's quite expensive and I guess other oils would do just as well. For me, gels just don't do the trick and creams make my skin worse.0
