Virgin have charged me £12 returned dd fee but admitted after i called them last week that it was their fault and they will refund it and close the account (I called to pay off balance and close account, i asked her if it was safe to cancel my dd she said yes and....well it wasn't hence the charge)
The question is will this show on my credit report?
if so what as?
The account was £32 in credit when they tried to take the dd if this makes any difference.

I had the same situation when cancelling a Virgin card. This was the first card I'd ever closed, so I wasn't really up on how to make life easy and let payments clear naturally and cancel the card once it had been dormant for a few months. Took about 5 messages back and forth before they agreed to refund the charge, but they did assure me that no adverse info would be recorded on credit files, and I haven't checked my file since, but have been able to obtain credit so I presume they didn't.

Your credit history will be fine I imagine, as a returned payment doesn't trigger a late marker on your file a: if you had no balance owing (you mention clearing the balance by alternative payment than a DD) & b: if any arrears are cleared within the account cycle period (virgin only report every 30 days to the reference agencies) so any arrears cleared within the period will not be reported.

    Hope this makes sense.
