School holidays

Was wondering if someone could please tell me how holidays can be extortionately priced when looking at school holidays?
Certainly in many financial service industries, it would be deemed wholly unfair, therefore illegal, to price products/services up dependant on seasonality or simply due to demand going up.
Surely the fuel, weather, up keep of location/hotel/villa, salary of hotel staff etc etc costs no more while uk children go on holiday than any other part of the year?
There must be some justification for why companies can get away with it -is it purely because the demand goes up therefore companies can charge what they like. There's no way that overnight the cost of travel goes up, for example, at a school half term, then drops immediately once the half term finishes.
I've just read a French villa that goes from £48 a night in may (non school holidays), to £158 a night in July???!!
Any replies that really gives the true explanation would be appreciated..

Sorry, please do excuse me, I have forgotten to take my medication today!
You are correct, it is due to supply and demand and there is no law against it in this case. Whether it should be is a different matter entirely.0 -
Wouldn't it be wonderful if they followed the reg's we follow in my industry and had to explain every single penny of how a price is created.
I'd love to see how the inflated prices are truly justified.
About as much chance as I have of winning several lotteries this year....0 -
because people will pay more.........simple
why is it more expensive to see the same show in London on a Saturday night than a Saturday afternoon...same answer
You can also ask why 2 people on the same flight both in the same class with the same service can pay completely different fares
The travel/tourism industry does not operate the same as your industry0 -
Basic supply and demand
This also allows for holidays/travel to be discounted when demand is low.... is this also unfair?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

That's a joke right?
so you reckon that - say - a B&B owner in Cornwall should have to justify why they want to charge you more for August Bank holiday weekend than they do for a wet weekend in February?
Get real, were not talking about one of life's necessaries here, just a holidayCorrect.... If people refused to pay it they would drop the price..
errr ...........
That's what's happening now, the businesses are tailoring the prices to suit demand.0
