Car insurance

Hi all,
My car insurance is due for renewal 3/8/2012. My birthday is just over a month later on 9/9/2012.
I am a 24 year old male, and for 25 year old males, not only are premiums said to be cheaper, but insurance policies often include third party, fire and theft in other vehicles (something which is rarely included in comprehensive insurance policies for under-25's).
I would like to start a new insurance policy on the 9/9/2012, but what is the most cost effective way of cancelling the 37 day policy from August to September? I already looked into temporary insurance, but that quoted £330 for 37 days... My insurance is under £600 for a whole year, so it's totally not worth it.
Is there a cost effective way to do this? Or should I just wait one more year (ie. until August 2013) until I can drive other vehicles 3rd party?
Kind regards
Cam

Yes. Arrange off-road cover and use public transport. Then get quotes to have cover to start on your birthday. You must ensure be vehicle is NOT on a public road.0

Need my car for work unfortunately, otherwise that would be a good idea. Could I take out an annual policy, pay for it monthly and cancel the policy after a couple of months and get a new policy?0

Yes, but it will be an expensive exercise.
Being 24 or 25 at the policy start date won't make a dramatic difference to the premium. (The compulsory excesses are reduced for over 25s, but that is based on age on the date of the claim, not the age the policy started).
Do some dummy quotes comparing starting on your birthday at 25 or starting at 24 years and 10 months, 23 days and see how cost effective delaying will be before making your decision.0 -
It is TP only. Some insurers give you the benefit when you turn 25 and some give it at the first renewal after you turn 25.but insurance policies often include third party, fire and theft in other vehicles (something which is rarely included in comprehensive insurance policies for under-25's).
There was a recent thread about this. You need to watch the requirements of this extension as it varies between insurers.0 -
Driving other cars doesnt always get added when your 25 it seems.
My sisters a lot older than that and its gone missing from her renewal.
And it's nopt 3rd party fire and theft. Its third party ONLY..
You have an accident thats your fault and your insurer pay the costs to the other party.
You get to pay out of your own pocket to repair whoever's car you damaged.
And you will lose some/all your no claims.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Many insurers don't provide driving other cars cover at all now and those that do often place restrictions on it - not the catch all it once was!0

Free 7 days drive away insurance for buying a new car. I would have thought buying from auction or just second hand needs the samething.
So maybe they can offer short term insurance for you. Haven't tried it myself.
A good insurance broker might help.0
