Home insurance cancelled? advice needed

Hi,

My sister has just had a letter from Norwich Union informing her that her Home insurance is to be cancelled, after 17years.
She has made 3 claims in this time, all of them in the last 3 years, the first was a leaking pipe in her kitchen wall, this claim was met. A leaking garage roof. This claim was denied due to wear and tear and the last claim was a burst pipe in her kitchen. They are now cancelling her policy, but have issued a new policy with the premiums going from £25 per month to nearly £60 prer month. Each time she has called the company she is given no proper explanation. How does she complain?. I would be grateful for any advice.

She needs to find out why it has been cancelled.... an insurer will not cancel a policy simply due to adverse claims experience. They will let it come to the end of the policy year and then either refuse to renew it or more likely simply give a silly premium so the person doesnt renew.

If NU have cancelled simply due to adverse claims experience then she would first of all need to claim to NU - the details of how to do this should be within the policy documentation (normally the policy book). If she is unhappy with their final response to that she can then escalate the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
