Home insurance not renewable

My current Home insurance company (building and contents) have written to me and have said that they will not provide me with a renewal quote - presumably because we have made 2 claims in the past 5 years. My argument is that I did not ask them to send me a renewal quote (as they were not very helpful when I did make a claim) and now I must advise other potential insurance companies that I have been refused insurance therefore increasing my premium. Has anyone else been able to make them retract this type of letter. Also I now need to find a company that will insure those that have been refused - any thoughts would be helpful?
Thank you

There has to be more than simply 2 claims to refuse a renewal. You ar correct, you will have to disclose the refusal, but you would also have to provide details of your claims regardless if under 5 years - so when requesting a quote provide details of your claim history, adding hat your current firm is declining to quote. This sounds better tan saying insurance has been refused.
You could say to your current firm that you will complain to the ombudsman as you are being made to disclose a refusal of cover - could they clarify their reasons.0 -
You have not been refused insurance. If you requested a quote and they said No then that would be a different matter. As no quote has been requested they have given you warning that they would refuse if you did thus preventing a refusal being marked against you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Insurers will ask about refused insurance when you are taking out a new policy - check the wording of the question. They will normally ask if an insurer has declined to accept or renew a policy or any terms imposed.
Unless you had told them before you got the renewal that you were going to lapse the policy, then I think this would be a decline.
Find out the exact reason for this - is it due to your claims (2 in 5 years does not seem excessive depending on claim type, amount & dates).
Perhaps the insurer can no longer offer cover in your postcode area in which case it's not so much a decline but more that the company does not offer cover for your requirements.
In any case you are better off advising the circumstances to any potential new insurer.0 -

The problem the OP currently faces has nothing to do with being "refused insurance"!
The problem is one of refusal to renew - (which does have the same effect as "refused insurance" as far as having to be disclosed).
As others are advising, the OP needs to find out the reason behind this, then progress this matter from there.0
