HELP!!
I am trying to uninstall the discontinued AVG 7.1 and install the new AVG 7.5.
BUT,
the uninstall failed as it wouldn't delete the file avgus.Ing
I tried to install the new version anyway; same problem
I've done a Google and looked on a few forums and tried some suggestions, to no avail.
I tried to delete the program via the start menu, via Add and Remove Programs, and via Program Files in the C drive and get: "cannot delete the file avgus.Ing : it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again". What does this mean?
Now I'm panicking as I have no virus protection, and the last time I switched the PC on it was running very slow on start up.
Any ideas anyone?!?!

it mean's the program is still running so you need to turn it off before you can un-install it,
start
run
<type in> msconfig
go to the start-up tab
uncheck it
apply
ok
restart your pc
then un-install it
that should work

To upgrade to 7.5 you don't uninstall the previous version. The upgrade instructions are as follows
Update of AVG 7.1 to 7.5- Run the AVG Free Edition 7.5 Setup program
- Click "Next >" on the AVG "Welcome!" screen
- Click "Accept" on the "License Agreement on Use of an AVG Free Edition" screen
- Select "Repair installation" on the "Select Setup Type" screen and click "Next >"
- Select "Restart the computer now" (pre-selected by the program automatically) and click "OK" on the "Installation Complete!" screen to restart your computer and complete the installation
Did the same myself, uninstalled the old version then tried to do a fresh install. To no avail. Then I read the instructions on the grisoft website.
I ended up editing the registry, and searched for and removed old files manualy. Then ran the install and it recognized that it was a fresh install
Remember If all else fails, then read the instructions!!!!0 -
If all the above advice doesn't work for you. try using this little free tool, which I use from time to time. It's simply called "Unlocker" and does what it says on the tin, it unlocks the programme.

Did you get sorted with AVG 7.50 -
Hey guys sorry I didn't reply back about this sooner.
Everything is sorted - thanks very much to everyone who replied, the problem is sorted thanks to people's brill advice.
Here's what I did, hope it's some help to others:
1. start
run
<type in> msconfig
go to the start-up tab
uncheck it
apply
ok
restart your pc
then un-install it
as per computer woman.
2. Went to this page http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-free75cnv/lng/us/tpl/v5
and followed the instructions in "Update of AVG 7.1 to 7.5"
3. After I restarted the PC the new version of AVG Test Centre opened, and said "Internal Virus Database is out of date" so I clicked on Check for Updates as normal, and downloaded what showed up as normal.
4. Then I did a complete scan; after the scan finished the System Configuration window was open. So I re-checked the "avgcc" pert that I'd unchecked in step 1., clicked apply and clicked close, and restarted the PC.
Phew, that made my brain ache!!
Thanks again,
Zippy
