1st and 2nd car insurance dilemma

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice. I am the registered owner of a car which I have comprehensive insurance on in my own name, there are no named drivers on this policy, and NCD is protected.

I want to buy another car. I would be the registered owner. If I take out insurance probably with a different insurance company in my name and have a couple of named drivers on it, if one of those named drivers has an accident which causes a claim to be made on the policy will that accident have an effect on my 1st car insurance?

Thanks

If you make a claim (or a claim is made against your policy by a named driver) you do have to notify all other motor insurers. (As you also would were you/your named drivers to cause a third party to claim from your insurer)

Whether this would impact your premium depends on how your insurer views the matter.

Your NCD on your other car would not be affected in any way (nor would your protection "lives")

Do remember though that if you take out another policy with "a couple of named drivers" you will have to declare who the main driver is going to be. Insurers will be particularly interested if there are any young or inexperienced drivers on there. It will be difficult to justify you are the main driver on both vehicles - although it probably can be done.

Equally as you already have another vehicle, insurers may just rate the second car on the youngest driver.

They will be thinking easy money we wont need to payout on this one.

Main driver on 2 cars. Quite possible of your the only name on the policy.

But adding people onto teh 2nd policy will ring the warning bell.

Are you really the main driver on both cars? And as above if the policy is in your name, You have to declare it for the next 5 years or so.

Fail to declare anything and things get much worse. They have a database that they can check to see if you have claimed etc.
