downloaded digital photos are small - how to make them bigger?

Options
Hi everyone,

Over the years I've had 3 digital cameras, we currently have a Fujifilm point and shoot one, and a GE bridge camera.

The issue I have with them all has been, when I download the photos from the cameras to the laptop, then upload them using photobucket to forums etc, the pictures are small, and I can't see any way to enlarge them?

Is this something to do with the camera settings, is it something to do with the software settings? Can I fix it, and if so, how?

Thanks.

Do you get any resize options before you upload it?

Image Shack have a do not resize option

Do the forums have a limit on size?

I'd use Imgur.com if I were you. It's fast and can host pretty hi res images

Presumably the images are a good size when downloaded from camera to computer. In which case, it will be the uploading process which is resizing them - not least because you don't won't to be uploading multi-megabyte sized images, which you can easily get from a bridge camera in particular.
    Look at your upload options.

thanks, no the forums don't appear to have a limit on size, as the photos I post are significantly smaller than other photos posted by others on the same forums.

    Does photobucket resize?

I would have thought it would give you the option to resize before uploading.

As before, Image Shack does let you keep the original size

Also after uploading it gives options such as direct link, which should be the image at the size you uploaded it

I find it better to resize images in an image editor before uploading them. This gives more control over file sizes and definition. Photobucket does have sizing options for uploads though. These can be read about here (see the 'Upload Options' box):

    http://support.photobucket.com/entries/21113692-set-your-upload-options.

The recommended size (1024x768) seems a bit high for most forum purposes. 640x480 or 800x600 is mostly OK and this keeps the file size down, which can aid faster display of the image.

thanks everyone, I've now got the size of the uploads sorted out - but now I've come across another problem. For some reason, the "rotate" to make the photo the right way up appears to be working in photobucket when I "rotate" but then when I copy the img link to post the photo, it hasn't rotated?

I've tried logging off once I've rotated a few images, then coming back in and pasting the img files, but they're not rotated when I paste?

Any ideas (they were fine when I uploaded them then rotated and pasted in the small size)?

Having rotated the image, are you pressing the 'Apply' button and then either the 'Save as Copy' or the 'Save and Replace' button? When that's done, the rotated image should show up in the album's thumbnail page.

I'm really sorry, I must be appearing really thick here, but when I get the option to rotate the picture in photobucket, once I click on rotate right, I just get a tick above it saying "one file rotated" - theres no apply or save button that I can see?

The Photobucket editor is a Flash application. Is Flash up to date? It might be worth emptying the browser cache. A full one can cause strange problems sometimes.

Have you got any sort of image editor installed on the computer?
