Need a make up overhaul

Hi folks looking for some advice re my make up bag, feel as if I need a total overhaul on my make up regime and had a few questions and wanted to see other peoples opinions.

1. Do you put mascara on your bottom lashes, I feel when I do this my undereye looks "dirty"
2. Do you put eyeliner on your bottom lid
3. Can anyone recommend a good product for covering a red complexion
4. Whats the best foundation for dry skin but still gives a good coverage

Thanks in advance

    1. Personally i wear mascara on my lower lashes. Some people say that wearing mascara on the lower lashes throws shadows onto lower eye so they dont apply it there. I dont have that problem. In your case, then do what looks good on you.

    2. Yes you can wear eyeliner on your bottom lid but i just use a kohl pencil on my inner water line. I dont wear eyeliner myself.

    3. I dont wear concealers on my uneven skin tone, just a decent foundation that covers well.

    4. Estee Lauder Double Wear is my favourite foundation but i havent used it for quite a while as i find it fairly drying. I am on the hunt for a decent non drying but good coverage foundation. If you find one, give me a shout.

I've just bought MAC mineralise compact, I have dry skin and it feels great on. Good buildable coverage.

    1. I do if i'm going out but not during the day. I only use a little on the bottom lashes.

    2. I line my waterline on the bottom.

    3. You need a colour corrector to sort out redness.

    4. MAC mineralise compact, Chanel Lumiere

    1. Yes, always, comb with eyelash comb afterwards. My eyes need all the help they can get.

    2. A little eyeshadow applied with an eyeliner brush. Usually taupe/mink colours. Eyeliner can be too harsh and 'close' the eyes and make them look smaller.

    3. A green colour corrective base. Can be difficult to buy though.

    4. I don't have dry skin but a luminizing base may with the redness and dryness. Currently using Laura Mercier spackle in champagne which I like. You should avoid powder foundations as they can emphasise dryness.

  • I don't put mascara on my lower eyelashes, as like you it makes under my eyes look dirty and also tends to smudge giving me dark circles.. I did wear eyeliner on my bottom lid but was told it made my eyes look small and piggy !!!!!!!!!!!! I've heard white eyeliner in it's place makes your eyes look whiter and brighter, might give it a try !

Thanks for all your replies, I think when I wear eyeliner on my bottom lid it does make my eyes look small and "tight" so think I will avoid this in future!
  • plus the fact Kate Middleton does it is reason enough not too :-)

Smashbox do a green colour-correcting primer, quite pricey though!

    1. Do you put mascara on your bottom lashes, I feel when I do this my undereye looks "dirty"- try Lancome doll eyes, it is very delicate.
    2. Do you put eyeliner on your bottom lid - you can do, try putting it on the outside of your lid rather than in the water line. I quite often use eyeshadow and a wet square tipped brush, loads of colour choice then.
    3. Can anyone recommend a good product for covering a red complexion - never try to cover your colour, just try and make the best of what youve got, try a tinted moisturiser?
    4. Whats the best foundation for dry skin but still gives a good coverage - try Bobbi Brown.

I would say dont be afraid of make up counters - look for someone whose look you like. What kind of look are you wanting to acheive? Bobbi Brown is very natural, Estee Lauder is glam and Illamasqua - wow! Try you tube and Twitter - there are loads of reviews and how to videos and tutorials.
