Conveyancing and Solicitor Costs

We're currently in the process of moving house and have just received invoices from a conveyancing company we are using and our solicitor. I think we've been ripped off ..... we've received an invoice for £510 on our current property and £550 on the property we are purchasing.

We've also received an invoice for £419 and £512 respectively from our solicitors.....

Is this right? I feel like we are double paying????

My husband organised it so I was unaware of this until today.......

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oh dear, it does sound like you're being charged twice. Who did you instruct to provide conveyancing services? The solicitor or the conveyancing company?
You had me at your proper use of "you're".

I'm not an expert but we are going throught the process at the moment. We are only using a solicitors and are FTB so not selling a property but we are paying the solicitors two types of costs: one is for their time and the other is for searches/indemnity insurances etc. Have they given you a breakdown of the costs?

What are the invoices for? Presumably you've been sent some sort of statement of account showing the breakdown of the fees that might help shed some light on what they are each doing for you? Have you asked your husband why he instructed two different firms?

If you get on with the estate agents then you could ask them to review what's going on and take the paperwork along, especially if you haven't moved yet. Use the ones you've used for selling as you will normally be paying them a big fee for their services when you complete.

Tell them you can't proceed until this is sorted out. Most estate agents are keen to do anything which will ensure the selling process keeps moving.
