Rayleigh & Benfleet

We are a family with a 3 year old looking to rent in the Rayleigh/Benfleet areas. A catchment area for a good primary school and a safe neighbourhood is priority. We are moving from Devon.
Any suggestions on which roads to avoid or areas to avoid in both areas?
Much appreciated.

I don't know Benfleet very well but Rayleigh is OK. I'd stick to north of the railway line for the schools and if your budget will stretch, consider Hockley. All three primaries there are brilliant and the secondary school is very good, too."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Rayleigh highstreet is an absolute nightmare to drive down at busy times (took me 30mins to go 200m the other week)...so if you need to drive make sure you're not reliant on going in and out the centre to get out. Nice Harvester there
