JSA & income protection payments received

I am claiming contribution-based JSA after having been made redundant. I am also receiving a small company pension which has reduced the JSA to a very small amount.
However I also have an income protection insurance policy that will pay out as long as I 'sign on' and actively seek employment which means that I cannot afford not to sign on whilst I do try and find something else. Also I have to keep paying for the insurance policy whilst it pays out (up to a maximum of 12 months).
I know (from the HMRC website) that any income protection insurance payments that I may receive are not taxable.
However, what I can't seem to find anywhere, is if these payments need to be declared wrt JSA and if the payments would affect the JSA (like the pension payments have).
Can anyone clarify this for me please.

Only pension payments affect contributions based JSA but if you're still unemployed after 6 months the income protection will affect means tested JSA when you move onto it.0

at the end of 6 months I won't get income based JSA because of savings, etc regardless of any insurance payments so that won't affect me0

From a different quarter, I have heard that the payments would have to be declared as the DWP would consider them to be income and they would be taken into account when considering JSA benefit even before the contribution based benefits ended.
I am now in a quandary as whether or not they should be declared and if they are actually accountable with respect to JSA at this point.

I have found this:
http://www.paymentprotectioninsurance.org.uk/unemployment-benefits-and-ppi.html
which says that these payments are only taken into account when you are on income based JSA.
However, I cannot personally vouch for this link.
My only other suggestion would be to ring CAB and ask - can't find anything on the internet which is 'government backed'.
Hopefully someone else will have more luck.0
