    Morning Hilstep and all,
Went to see mum and dad yesterday, and they have a standard lamp with a big shade in their lounge and the lampshade had been taken off the lamp, when we asked why, they said they went to bed Sat night and when they got up Sunday morning - the shade was on the floor and the support was broken it had obviously fallen off in the night - both me and DH think they had a visitor in the night! - so too speak!! They have no animals etc and none of the children had been there and could have broken it etc - spooky or what!?

I had much the same experience when my Father died. At the time i wasnt living in the house i had a house of my own with my ex but Mom was a bit of a mess and i spent a lot of time preparing funeral arrangements and staying with Mom in the house. When we did leave the house and on our return i could see him looking out of the living room window through the net curtains waiting for our return. At this point Mom had already threatened to finish the bottle of pills off in one go that they doctor had given her and said she would take my 14 year old brother with her so i didnt leave her side for months.

These 'appearances' stopped as by magic after the funeral and Mom started to get back to her less suicidal state after the birth of my son 5 months later.

Back to the grindstone today. Ive got heaps of washing and as the weather seems to have brightened up i might get to dry it outside sometime today.

Ive got that stupid appointment with the pharmacist at 1. I say stupid, he wants to 'review' my new medication even though i am going back to see my GP next week with the view of changing it as my BP is still too high. Ive tried so many different ones now and i really dont want to go back to the ones i was on before as the side effects were awful (but at least they controlled my BP). Actually i might phone up the pharmacy and cancel it thinking about it.

Son has an exam today and hubby has already sent me a text from Reading saying 'is it Friday yet?'. I dont think the job is going too well.

Just got back from doing all the photocopying for Dad.
Redruby-That's exactly how I feel about Dad's money. He and Mamma worked hard, he had his own business, and lost it due to ill health, then having to sell his flat was awful. have to pay anythingIf he'd been !!!!less, lived in a rented place and never worked he wouldn't have had to pay anything! Still, we may get it back if I persist.
He is happy in the nursing home though, and I don't have to worry about him now.

Booked my nails and a pedicure in for Friday, something to look forward to.:)

    Good Morning.

What am I doing here so early (for me) in the day? You may well ask. The rev had an appointment in Newport at 9.20 this a.m. and I was going with her so that we could hit the cash and carry afterwards. As we would be fighting the school and work traffic we were all dressed and getting in the car by 8.30. Before she switched on the engine she glanced in her diary and discovered that the appointment wasn't till 2.30 this p.m. How I laughed. To calm me down she has offered to take me out to lunch to make up for it.
Anyway, I made a pot of coffee and am now drifting gently through the morning - hence this early post.

Ironing is the most pressing (sorry!) need today. No change there then. And if I get that done I will think that the day was well spent.
Foodwise it will be an ad hoc day.

Hilstep: Good luck with Social Services. It is iniquitous how careful thrifty people are penalised in old age. My parents bought their little house in the 30's when it was unusual for young, working clas couples to own their own house. All their lives they scrimped and saved, My Dad was touching 50 before he could afford his car and they only had one holiday abroad in their lives. This meant that there was enough money at the end of his life for him to pay every penny of his home care and the Care Home he eventually had to go into. An old neighbour of theirs rented their home, changed their car every year, travelled extensively and spent quite a bit on entertainment so when the wife was in need of care Social Services picked up the tab. It's a common story, but that doesn't make it right. You fight for every penny your Dad is entitled to.

And on that rant I will sign off.

Morning all, lovely day here,so washing out.I have a white shirt soaking in Bio tex.DSons were both at a wedding on Sat,DS2 was an usher and looked very posh in his morning suit etc when he set out. When he arrived back the following morning about 10(DS1 was back by 1am Sun morn.)the pristine shirt had its sleeves rolled up and covered in mud ,he went to a club after the wedding ended. He'd given the jacket to another friend to look after luckily,as the outfit is hired.
After a few hours sleep,he/we had DGD in the afternoon, she brought him a lovely card, some chocs with 1st Fathers Day on,and a glass tankard No.1Dad,so he was very chuffed. He had been feeling grumpy as he hadnt heard from his ex about a visit-turns out he still had his phone on silent from being at the wedding. In the end her other Nanna rang me to arrange dropping DGD off.DH thought he'd been forgotten when he got up,but got cards off both sons and 2 T shirts so he was pleased too .Had a nice tea, cheeky M&sdeal:o so no cooking for me either ;)
Hugs to Hilstep & Nmlc today, and anyone else who could do with one x

    Morning all....just!
Lovely sunshine here, so whirly is full! Have emptied mount ironmore this morning in readiness for that lot drying. MIL popped over for coffee and a blether earlier, so am running a tad behind. Need to pop to bathroom shop, lid has snapped off loo seat as if by magic in DS's hand?!?!?! and as loo seems a very odd shape and size will no doubt cost a packet to replace. Have no idea what to make for tea, left over brisket has been sliced and frozen for another meal, and dont know what I fancy, will need to find something in freezer for next 2 days for the bears whilst I am at work. Right, no rest for the wicked, have a good day all!

Judi did your mother see your father in the window or just you?

I never mentioned it to Mom, she was in enough of a fragile state as it was. Couldnt take the risk of spooking her as she had to live in the house afterwards.

I told her many years later and got told off for not telling her at the time.

This morning we put the radio onto Classic FM, as usual, just for long enough to hear the news, weather and traffic info (so that Mr LW gets an idea if he needs to leave for work a few mins early).

Unfortunately, to hear all this, we have to put up with an advert break - bad enough at the best of times. But this morning, it really got my goat. I couldn't tell you who/what the ad was for, because I didn't take that bit in, but the tautology really annoyed me for some reason. The phrase used? The perfectly normal "FREE GIFT". I mean, for goodness sake, if something is a gift it is given away so of course it's free!

Another one that gets my goat is "PRE-ORDER" If you order something, you're asking for it to be supplied, there's no need for the pre bit.

I guess I'm just turning into a grumpy old woman.... or does anyone else get annoyed at broadcasters mangling the English language?:D

I'm not going to get started about "greengrocers' apostrophes" or my blood pressure will go up!:rotfl:
