Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 18th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning Everyone!
Cat woke me at 4am, but I shrugged him off:rotfl: Got up eventually and 5.30. Raining here at the moment, but we are promised sun later, and a better early part of the week.
Had a lovely day yesterday. DD, SIL and DGD came for dinner. Did roast chicken with peach crumble and rice pud for afters. DGD wanted some crumble, but hadn't finished her rice pud, and was very cross with me when I said she couldn't have any till she had eaten what she asked for:rotfl:Gave me a dirty look, but she didn;t get any crumble! (Gave her some to take gome for today instead!) Made chicken stock later and now have three portions of pea soup in the freezer.
Going to see the urinary nurse this afternoon about my infection and the fact that is making me fall. Finished the ab, but don't know if it's gone or not,
Finally did my Dad's finances for the Social Services at the weekend. OH helped me. Been putting it off for two weeks. (I am running out of money and they are supposed to be paying some now) Realised that in 20 months I have paid out £52,000 of his money on Care home fees:eek:
Still hoping to get it back from the NHS, as we feel they should be paying.:o
Anyway, hope today goes well for you all
(((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) if you need them!

Morning Hilstep & all who cross/follow.
I hope you get the money sorted.
I'm off to work soon, hubby's still in bed as he's on the late shift today.
DW emptied, packups sorted, cottage pie for hubby & peanut butter sarnies for me & I've fed the fish. I have one more parcel to wrap & that is all my eBay stuff ready to post, I had a rummage through my spare room but only managed to find 3 more items to sell and some more books.
I best go & see what joys work will bring today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning Hilstep, Hester and all to follow.
Good Luck with the nurse Hilstep & work today Hester!
Monday morning and its raining
Had a good weekend though, did go to Chinatown yesterday and have a lovely cheap meal. OH enjoyed his Fathers Day.
Today am looking myself in my office once the kids are off. DD is going in later than normal which means she needs a lift to a station further away which is annoying but never mind.
OH is home today, he was going to do the garden but think now he will find something to do in the house.
Dinner tonight will be pork belly meatloaf from Frugal Queens website.
Have a great day all, (((hugs))) to whoever needs/wants one.x0 -
Good Morning Hilstep and All Who Follow x
Hester - hope work is ok x
NMLC - hugs to you and your family.
Hilstep - Hope you get on well with the nurse x
Will be back later xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning :hello:
Friend drove me insane on saturdayHe couldn't finish a conversation, just kept jumping to a different subject when I/mr tru was halfway through saying something. Saw something on FB the other day "I'm sorry, did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?" and really wanted to say it but I couldn't get a word in
He couldn't sit still, I think he might have been attached to the wall by a bungee rope. I gave up and went in the other room. He left at 10am yesterday, I was so relieved and actually slumped in a chair when he left. I'm afraid my tolerence level to people has plummeted to 0%. No-one is welcome in my house ATM.
Still, this gives me the chance to do what I've been saying I'm going to do for ages - put me first. I've got the washing on and the not-so-white-and-bright-anymore tea towels, cloths, flannels and small towels are soaking in washing powder and baby sterilising tabletsI've scrubbed the hob (mess from friend's curry making). The tomatoes have shot up and need a bit of pruning and the guinea pigs and chickens need cleaning out. I'm aiming to have everything done by 10am then I'm going to write lists, start planning a website and go through my crafts - I really need to get some sales but I've come to a standstill.

Morning all,
Rain here too, but meant to be sunny later on :j, we will hopefully have a good week.
Hilstep, thats a shocking amount to have to pay for your dads care, it makes me so mad that the money him and your mama worked for all their lives has gone in a flash, how is he getting on now ?
Not a lot of os today, dd and I are off to Portsmouth, to hit Primark, and get the rest of our holiday bits done, I know primark is not the best shop, but if you are a teen on a limited budget its fab :T,
We will probably have lunch out, just a salad for me though, I have lost 8lb, which I am very thrilled with, seems to be coming off 2lb a week, so will hopefully loose a bit more before my holibobs :j
Not sure whats for dinner, will go and rummage, we took tea into my dad at the home yesterday, he had fresh crab sandwiches, (3 rounds) a huge cheese scone, and a huge slice of victoria sponge, I think he enjoyed it
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, sunny here today, DD will put washing out later if it stays sunny. Jack walked and fed, he's snoring again and the new kitten is asleep in his box. Off to school in a minute so no OS for me. DD did a good clean yesterday so house looks good. Hugs to all in need, hope you get the money for your dad sorted Hilstep and that you have a quiet day at work HH. Hope your headache is better LW, must have been something in the air yesterday as I had a massive migraine too, better today thank goodness. Have a good day all.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

DD1 and DD2 still in bed as they have a training day today.
We are having lots of year 5 children visit us at the "big" school today so I am going to be teaching some of those.

Morning everyone
Thank you so much for all your kind words and hugs at this sad time for my family. Trying to give my parents as much support as possible over the coming weeks. They're hoping to have some definite funeral arrangements in place by the end of today, Aunt had specific wishes, of which church, which cemetery and where the wake should be after - good because you know you're doing what she wanted but not so good if you can't carry out their wishes! Went to see mum and dad yesterday, and they have a standard lamp with a big shade in their lounge and the lampshade had been taken off the lamp, when we asked why, they said they went to bed Sat night and when they got up Sunday morning - the shade was on the floor and the support was broken it had obviously fallen off in the night - both me and DH think they had a visitor in the night! - so too speak!! They have no animals etc and none of the children had been there and could have broken it etc - spooky or what!?
Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Dull overcast and very wet underfoot here this morning and has just starting raining again, looks set in for the day! DH up and off to work at stupid early.
Dinner last night was naughty takeaway, as we had several jobs to do when we got back from one night away, we should have gone Friday night but felt giving parents initial support was more important, we went away first thing Sat morning and boys were able to fish in the match as planned. We haven't been to that venue before and is very nice.
Dinner tonight will be pork chops, mash, veg and gravy, hoping to use up the last bit of apple pie and other LO's - fridge is packed to bursting so I can't see what I have and haven't got! Did manage to get a small line of washing dry when we got back yesterday but obviously have a couple of loads that need doing but I'll wait and try to wash them when I can line dry them.
Back to work today for me, can imagine it'll be a normal manic Monday and mum and dad are coming in to register Aunt's death early this afternoon. Think they will be happier once they have firm arrangements in place as it feels like we're in limbo at the moment.
Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

nmlc - lots of good wishes. Such a difficult time, so many things to do - it is so hard.
Normally I pop in and get darling father's papers and milk on the way home from dropping little bear off at school. Today I need to pick up some cream from the chemist, and I thought that I may as well pick that up after dropping little bear off - it is a very small detour - about five minutes. Then I found that I needed weetabix - currently little bear's favoured honey delivery system for breakfast and there is an over priced local Nisa just behind the chemist so I will drop little bear off at school, then to the Nisa, then to the chemist, then to the newsagent. Then I remmebered that I need two little chest of drawer thingies from Matalan as a cheap place to get them to help organise some bits in the living room and I may as well pick them up on the way back to the house., especially as the flylady is doing living room today. I will be dropping little bear off at school five minutes away and get back, staggering under the load, at around 10am, all from shops 10 minutes away at most.
I have lots of washing to do - I brought back a lot of textiles from darling uncle's house, so I will be washing and sorting. So far it has been flannel sheets that have gone to holes and curtains that were all the crack in 1968. They will be donated to Nice Mr Next Door for rags. The curtains are not even fit for retro.
Hugs to all
May not be able to get back on today - computer is running v poorly.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Morning all. Expensive weekend getting son's kitlist for his month in uganda. He goes saturday and i am getting    about it. Has to start his malaria tablets thursday. Children all home yesterday for father's day. Just found out we're taking dd2 back to edinburgh tonight. She's doing 2 days a week voluntary in edinburgh with a childrens charity so totally broke. She's really enjoying it and has been asked to represent them at a conference next week over in glasgow. My baby's growing up! She'd applied for a paid parttime position with another childrens charity but didnt have any experience so hoping this is an investment, and may be about to get a paid bit of work fingers crossed. Have a good day everyone. It's raining here. Rained all day yesterday. So fed up with the rainMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
