Question for you super organised lot......
Has anyone mastered the art of paperwork? We have a folder which is divided into gas/electric/mortgage etc. which is fine, but the time between the post coming through the door and making it either into the bin or into the folder seems to be weeks and so little piles regularly spring up. I know the obvious solution is do it straight away but time doesn't always permit that! Anyone conquered the paperwork piles and lived to tell the tale?

    Yay! You've got a folder!:D
OK, so you know where it all comes from and where it needs to go, so it's the bit between delivery and folder that is the problem. So I'd suggest having everything in one place. Ask yourself:
    • Do you need to do anything else with those pieces of paperwork? e.g.
    • Do they need to be checked against previous bills,
    • do you need to check the readings on the gas and leccy bills if you've provided your own readings?
    • do you need to pay anything via cheque or internet?
    • Is it possible to put the stamps, envelopes and cheques close to the filing as well?
    • Can you put the bin (or recycling bin) and the shredder next to where the items get paid or filed?
If you're doing internet banking, what kind of computer do you use as it would make sense to have everything bill related next to a computer tower and monitor but you can take a laptop to the filing.

HTH and hope that makes sense:D

    Hi all.

I'm sort of in this week; but tbh, Sid's taking up a lot of time and energy, and as far as I'm concerned, his needs come first. He's so very unsteady on his little legs now, and is not keen to eat, so I'm having to resort to sitting with him and encouraging him.

*sigh* I have a really bad feeling that this may be his last visit.

Anyways... Valli many thanks:A for posting the lemon cake recipe; that looks eminently do-able; I've copied it onto the flash drive I have for recipes and other household information (eg knitting patterns snagged from the internet) and I shall give it a go when Sid's gone home (I walloped together coffee & walnut buns for Mr LW's lunchbox, at his request, so he's got those this week, and he's on leave Wednesday for Litha in any case).

Macpep pudd'n cat will be safe across the Rainbow Bridge; it is horrible, having to put their little paws on it though; I remember Penny-Dog making her journey as if it was yesterday. Have a (((HUG))).

I see Short Bird has offered a lot of good sense; but as filing is something I'm very efficient at, I thought I'd add a few thoughts.

Nowadays I make myself deal with, and file, paperwork as soon as it arrives, if it's humanly possible. I have a box file for my financial stuff, with coloured folders for each account (I deal with two banks, one has yellow folders, 'tother has red), and a similar box for Mr LW. Car stuff goes in another box file. I have a lever arch file, with plastic wallets for the utilities; my pension/benefits stuff is also in a lever arch file.

If something can't be dealt with immediately (as in something needs to happen first, not that I cba), it goes in a special place on my computer desk where it will annoy me til it's dealt with.

If all else fails, I have a note in my PDA for 1st of each month to check round and deal with any filing that's slipped through the net and needs dealing with. Mr LW still puts stuff down instead of away sometimes, and this catches anything he's done that with.

If it's got to be left in abeyance for a bit, I still get rid of the envelope and any extraneous rubbish with it, and have it unfolded, neatly on the desk, with a pencil note on it of what needs to happen before it can be filed. That way, if you do end up with a small pile, it's tidy and therefore not so daunting.

Oh, and the other thing is I have as many bills as possible electronically, so they just get copied onto a Word document and filed on the computer. If you have a folder for each item, and sub-folders for each year, when it comes to weeding, you just choose the oldest sub-folder and delete it! I still have physical folders, as sometimes they have to send an actual letter, for legal reasons, but this has cut down the amount of paper coming into the house drastically!

Currently all that's on my desk is the Sid's information sheet, which I need to refer to, and the "postcard home" I have to write and put in his luggage when he goes home.;)

Anyways, I'm going to grab a quick sandwich, then it'll be time to take Sid for a little walk.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
