Is this legit or scam? car insurance

I have just passed my driving test last week and I am looking for car insurance. I have done some quotes and get no less than 4k for the car I want. I am willing to pay 3k at most.

I found an advert on gumtree that had been posted numerous times over the past month in all different areas.

I text them asking for a quote on a 1.6 Fiesta Zetec S 2009 and they replied asking me for my age (19) and Location (Liverpool), which I sent them and then they replied with a quote of £1150. Which is far from what I have been quoted through comparison sites.

My mate has also had a quote witch they replied to him with a quote of £1136 on a Fabia vRS 2011. they also gave him the option of paying monthly. (witch makes me think they MAY be legit? :S) He then asked what the excess would be and who he would be insured with and they replied £250 and he would be insured with Aviva?

This just seems to good to be true. They have a mobile number to contact them by: 07960239774 - and that is it. Like I said, just seems to good to be true?

if you type the mobile number (07960239774) into Google you can see there advert on Gumtree.

Has anyone heard of these "people" or "company" or dealt with them & what does everyone think?

Thanks.

Be reasonable here - what does your senses tell you? Gumtree!! Mobile number only?!? unreasonable premium due to your circumstances!

Stay well clear IMO - If you want to chance a call to a mobile number go ahead and find more info - but TAKE CARE HERE - IMO You will get fleeced one way or another.

    Google ghost brokers

The "ghost brokers" operate through websites or small ads offering cheap insurance.

    Yes it is a scam.
Your car will be stopped by the police and taken to a secure pound until you can produce some real insurance.

    SCAM!!!

Dodgy geezers are taking out fleet or motor trade insurance, on a fictitious business. Too many brokers don't visit and are happy to take a bit of new business over the phone.

A fleet or Motor Trade policy will allow them to be set up with MID access, to keep their vehicle info up to date. They then advertise as you have seen, add your vehicle to the MID so you are not pulled over on an ANPR check.

You will not be covered for damage to your own car, but the unfortunate insurer will be paying out for Third Party claims as being the near as dammit insurer on the planet. You will not be able to tax your car, as the registered owner and the policyholder will not match.

Bet your bottom dollar that when you get hauled over, dodgy geezer and mobile phone are impossible to contact.

Did DVLA or insurers see this coming........No!!.......did I see this coming.....Yes, about 8 years ago.

The only way the continuous Insurance Enforcement will be effective is if tax is not transferable to the new owner. There were other ways, but the powers that be, brainless graduates that think up this rubbish, haven't got a clue, and by moving the goal posts every other month have made it more and more complicated. And their idea of filling loopholes is to make it more and more complicated, so the honest punters are tiptoeing through a minefield.

Let's get back to basics DVLA, it costs £15 to chip a pet, the info held on the chip is owner, home address, phone number, with room for a lot more info, even likely areas of use. The details held on the chip can be changed, as they are if you rehome a rescue dog, albeit for a small fee.

Would it be too simple to chip a vehicle? Crikey, you could even hold names of likely drivers, and possibly pics/licences of the drivers.

Hold tight whilst I go and patent this bdooly obvious idea, that the public sector workers have missed, must be too simple and do away with a few 1000 jobs.

    Ho hum!!!

Er no. The pet microchip stores nothing but a 12-digit number, think of it as a barcode, as that is what it emulates. To get the information you seek you need to call the central registry (for Pet's this is PetLog). Give them the number, and they can use this to look up the details they have already stored. For rehoming, the database is simply updated, the chip is unaltered.

As you can see, your suggestion to chip vehicles you'll not provide anything useful - It already has a VIN, nothing else is needed - DVLA holds all the salient info.

    Complete and utter scam.

There are 3 possible outcomes here:

    1) You pay the scammer your money and never hear from them again; or

    2) You pay the scammer your money, he or she gives you a fake certificate and documents, you are not insured; or

    3) You pay the scammer your money, he or she fradulently buys a policy from an insurer based on false details (eg the motor trade scam above), you are again not insured as the policy will be void should any claim occur.

Please report the advert to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (https://www.insurancefraudbureau.org/report/) and the police.
