Debit card failure

Just wondering if someone could give me some advice.
I broke my debit card and the bank sent me a new one.
After about 2 days they stopped it as I had used it on ebay.
After telephoning me and clearing the payments, they said everything was fine.
However my card was declined when I went to pay my bills.
So I phoned the company I was paying and explained the situation, no problem with them they said - ring the bank. So I did.
Several calls to both the bank and the company (3 hours in total)) resulted in me going to my local branch.
There they confirmed there was nothing wrong with my account and there was plenty of money in there as I already knew. Strangely my card did work in the cash point!!
No use to me as the company I wanted to pay was in another country!!
They couldn't explain why my card was being rejected, so ordered me a new one.
The problem is I have been charged by the company for a late payment.
Also I have been rebuilding my credit rating for the past 3 years and its now completely ruined as I had a payday loan due as well and because the card was declined I've got charges there too as well, even though I made a payment through internet banking.
But another problem is that now they have ordered me a new card - they cancelled the old one - leaving me unable to pay anyone or get into my internet banking on a Sunday.
To day I'm frustrated would be an understatement.
I was due to go on holiday on Friday but had to cancel as I could not use my card and I was in such a state that I was left a crying mess.
Any ideas if I can claim the charges back of the bank.
Thanks.

Have a go, see what they say ;)

Afterall, now you're not going on holiday, what else have you to do?

Btw, what bank charges have you actually incurred?

Hi I have written to the formally to ask them to cover my expenses. I had a small loan which was being paid back and as the card didnt work it bounced - ruining my 3 year effort to rebuild my credit rating. Im more annoyed about this than anything else!!!
    Lets see how they reply.
