Anyone had any success getting rid of mice?

Humane traps with chocolate in them.
Caught the little blighter after just one night!! He was just one we think the cat had bought in, but give it a try, worked for us.0 -
Have you tried a little piece of salami or pepperoni on a trap? It's fatty and strong smelling and is a bit of a mouse magnet. I'm surprised peanut butter hasn't worked. First time my husband used it they were throwing themselves on it. Make sure you're not putting too much bait on the trap as well, so they don't just eat the bits they can reach without touching the trap.
Wilkinson's mouse poison works pretty well and they seem to find it quite appetising. It comes in a tube so you need bait trays. Much cheaper than buying the boxes of sachets.0 -
We had a mouse problem and thought it was funny and cute... AT FIRST.. until they multiplied... we tried all the home made and humane traps we could.. but eventually they ate my childrens coats and i found mouse poo on my daughters bed.. they had to go... i am in a privately owned house but the council sorted it with poison for £20.. this included traps and visiting 3 times... glad i did it now!BACK and READY..... waiting on Royal Mail!!!0

I ended up buying three of these

And put them down after my youngest two kids had gone to bed around 7pm. I baited one with left over cottage pie from kids tea, fried some bacon for the second, and put some bread in the third, and when I checked them half an hour ago, one mouse was already dead.
I feel slightly embarrassed that I have had to resort to cooking for the little blighters but am so relieved to have caught one of them at last. Hopefully, I can tempt the others out quickly and get rid of them all by the end of the week.0 -
Building work and a broken air brick brought them into my flat a few years ago, sealed the air brick cavity with a plastic version of the same thing, and wherever a friend and I had to seal up holes in the floor/boards we mixed steel wool into the mixture to hurt any mouse/rat trying to chew or scratch through the holes we filled in.
After that I bought large size rat traps from B&Q even though they were mice, plus a few of the smaller mouse traps (the black plastic variety). Used Cadbury's Fudge for bait as that could be squished into the trap holes.
Eventually killed the lot of them except one that got away and buried them under the tree in the garden, one trap took out two at once, cleaned them off with Dettol to them again. Put poison down until I found the survivor was just eating it and coming back for more so they were used to it. Once I stopped feeding the final stragglers with poison they went for good and that hole is now blocked up with a half-kilogram dumbell weight.
I know that the downstairs neighbours have had mice back again at least once since then but they haven't ventured back up here due to the blocking off the holes and then a deep clean to make sure nothing was out for them to eat including and especially crumbs or dropped food on the floor. The deep clean has also kept pantry moths to a minimum as a side benefit and forced a major chucking out because the mice can hide in the hoarded mess.0 -
Thanks James. We are still struggling with this problem. At least one of the little blighters is still alive and kicking and coming out to play in the evenings! The pest control man is back tomorrow so will see what he recommends next.0

If you live in a flat and your neighbours are [STRIKE]slobs[/STRIKE] not as careful as you, you'll never get rid of them...
I was told dried fruit (raisins etc) works well as bait, but haven't tested it.0 -
It's really no big deal and needn't cost a lot of dosh or effort. We occasionally have mice in the kitchen cupboards - it's the cat that brings them in , plays with them for a while then he gets bored and they escape!
We use a humane trap baited with a single raisin or sultana, works every time. Easy to release them far enough away that they won't return. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Rentokil got rid of our mice by leaving poison around the house. Looked like blue plasticine, but seemed to work. The man told us that we would probably not see any dead mice because they'll go back into their holes to die - and he was right. He also helped us plug up any holes.0

The blue plasticine was 2 weeks ago. Little b*ggers didn't touch any of it. Pest control man was back today and has put something different down. I have one more visit covered under the payment I made to the council, and then they say I have to pay again, even though they haven't caught or killed any of them! The only one to have bitten the dust is the one I caught in the electric trap.
Am very tempted to call the people Londoner recommended but in MSE style will give this new poison a few more days to see if it works.
Not sure why mgdavid seems to think this is an easy problem, given everything I have tried and the length of time we have been trying to get rid of them though! Very pleased for him that he was lucky enough to catch his mouse quickly and easily but he hasn't suggested anything I haven't already tried without success, hence why a lot of both dosh and effort is being expended to get rid of them.0
