Hi I have a couple of gadgets that need D cells, or at least D sized cells. I currently use rechargeable NiMh D cells rated at 2300mah. One a periodic radio sender and the other an LED lantern, again used sporadically.
Have noticed that C/D converter cases are available to allow the use of AA cells.
Providing I switched to similar capacity AA batteries will I experience any noticeable difference in performance. Certainly LSD batteries may have benefits. The LED lantern is always batteries are generally "topped up" prior to any extended use.
Historically I always expected big batteries to have more staying power.

For medium power devices, like those you list, if the capacity measured in mAh is the same you will get similar period of continuous use. For infrequent use the self-discharge rate also needs considering.
A bigger battery with same method of construction will have a bigger capacity.0
