Rechargeable batteries AA/D substitution

Options
Hi I have a couple of gadgets that need D cells, or at least D sized cells. I currently use rechargeable NiMh D cells rated at 2300mah. One a periodic radio sender and the other an LED lantern, again used sporadically.

Have noticed that C/D converter cases are available to allow the use of AA cells.

Providing I switched to similar capacity AA batteries will I experience any noticeable difference in performance. Certainly LSD batteries may have benefits. The LED lantern is always batteries are generally "topped up" prior to any extended use.

Historically I always expected big batteries to have more staying power.

  • For medium power devices, like those you list, if the capacity measured in mAh is the same you will get similar period of continuous use. For infrequent use the self-discharge rate also needs considering.

A bigger battery with same method of construction will have a bigger capacity.
