Chief rent question

Hello,
Just a quick question regarding Chief rent.
After reading the Rentcharges Act 1977, I understand that all chief rents should be extinguished in 2037 (60 years from the act), my rent-owner tells me this is not the case which I do not believe. I have the conveyance which shows it is definitely "chief rent".
The 1977 act also reads something like - chief rents should be extinguished 60 years from the Act or, 60 years after their creation and ours was created in June 1936.
Very confused and wondering whether we should be paying it at all. Can anybody please advise?
Laura

Hi Laura
I can confirm that most chief rents or rentcharges on freehold properties (apart from estate rentcharges) will be extinguished in 2037.
You can apply to the Department for Communities and Local Government to redeem a chief rent or rentcharge at rentcharges@communities.gsi.gov.uk

Thanks for posting, NRU. You may not be aware, but you do need official permission from MSE to post on behalf of an organisation (see site policies) so it'd be good if you got that permission asap!0
