Car Insurance and Named Driver discounts/NCB/SORN

Hello
I am taking over the insuring of our vehicle as husband has moved abroad. I have 2 years Named Driver Discount with Direct Line and before that was with Privilege and they have similar system I believe. Direct Line said can only use the time I have been with them. Is that correct?
Also, they said I can transfer my husband's no claims bonus to myself but he was hoping to use that in AUstralia. Direct Line said they weren't sure he could as they don't accept NCB from Australia. He brought his NCB over from Oz 10 years ago but maybe rules changed in the meantime.
If the above is correct, my only choice would be to use his NCB or just SORN the car as just not willing to pay silly insurance. However, a friend of mine said you now need to insure SORN cars. Is that true? It would be on private land though.
Thanks

If there is no insurance in place, the law is now that the car must be SORNed.
Named driver NCD is a marketing device, as you can only use it to take out insurance with the company that issued it, thus DL are correct by not letting you use the named driver NCD you got from privilege.0 -
Hi. My hubby has insured a car he's just bought in Oz and they have said if he transfers his No Claims Bonus to me in the UK, they will also accept it on a car over there? Does that sound right? I am sceptical. He questioned it too but they said something about 1 car being UK so could use it twice. He's used it on the car over there but don't want to insure my car now and transfer the bonus to myself, if means I could be un-insured. Just wondered if any insurance experts out there!

Thanks Quentin. just wanted to check I would be properly insured UK and Oz by using NCB twice, as know you can't do that here.0
