Faulty 4yr Old TV..

Hello All...:beer::beer:
I am asking for advice...and would appreciate any offered...
We bought a 42" LG HD Flat screen TV...4yrs ago...the price then, was £900!!! It has worked beautifully and we were very happy until the last month!!! It now, seconds after turning on...flickers and goes black and does this for almost half an hour..until it 'warms up' and then continues to work proparly! (the sound is not affected!!)
I have been told there is a consumer act that says that the uk...England in particular, has a 6yr window, where the product should last a reasonable amount of time,,,there are other factors where the price and wear and tear is factored in! Well, I think, that due to the high cost, and the fact that we've never moved it and we've looked after it,means we must have a strong case in getting this sorted! I do NOT expect to pay out this amount and it only last 4yrs!!!
I will get in touch with the store we bought it from...CURRYS, but would like advice on how to approach them...also, would it be better to write...if so....has anyone got a sample letter that I could look at?? Many Thanks! Mia:)

In law up to 6 months the item is considered faulty from sale. After this time it is up to you to prove the item is inherently faulty. You need to do your homework, look on the net for reports of the same fault. Currys will probably give you a flat out no. You will then need to get an independent engineer to write a report on the fault stating that the fault is inherent then Currys should pay any costs for the report and repair, replace or refund but a refund can be reduced for use so probably no more than £200 after 4 years.0

I think 4 years is a pretty reasonable time for a tv to last.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

I don't agree either, although I would expect Currys to argue this is close enough. I think you'd be lucky to get £200 back.Thinking critically since 1996....0

And why didn't you buy it from richer sounds or JL with a 5 year guarantee?0

If the OP would like you can email me at letusknow@knowhow.com (also in my bio). Please include your full address details and date of purchase of the product and I will be able to get this booked in for you.
Alternatively you can call our customer services team on 0844 561 1234 (local rate) and they can also get this booked in for you.
Please note that no money will be taken on your initial call our finance team call you later to confirm the payment.
If you don't wish to go through Currys / PC World you can get an independent quote and then come back to us at a later date.
If we do find a defect we will look to repair (where possible) or offer a contribution towards an alternative product based on the age of the machine
Hope this info helps you.
Kind Regards,
Paul

It's not a uncommon question. This Forum should reach out to company representatives for a official line/process and have a sticky with all the details (or allow Company Reps Only to post in the sticky) on how to go about claiming under your Consumer rights.0 -

TV's, like many other things such as washing machines, boilers etc are not made to last these days. I think a £900 should last more than 4 years, although not much more. Personally i'd say a fair life expectancy would be no less than 5-6 years.0
