Uk weekend break - reccomendations?

I'm looking to get a "romantic" getaway the weekend of the 6th July for two nights but the overwhelming choice of hotels, b&bs and cottages is making it difficult to choose. with the vast majority pointing to the Lake District

We live in Manchester so would be looking at a maximum of a 3hr drive budget for accommodation Is £280 could stretch to £300 would prefer breakfast included. Doesn't have to be quiet but I want it to be special.

Does anyone have any reccomendations of hotels or areas other than the obvious choice of the Lakes?

I'd be most grateful. I spent a whole day on various websites yesterday but didn't manage to book anything.

Just from a very quick look on lastminute.com there seems to be quite a bit in your budget in Peak District, and that's easily within your distance. York is also nice - the city centre is pricy but you could look to stay a little outside the city. Or head over towards Cheshire/North Wales is another option. You might also find more 'wet weather' options if you go away from the Lakes!

Depends what your idea of romantic is? And what you want do when you get there? First decide where you want to go, and what you want to do, then get on Trip Advisor and find some decent accomodation.

Walking/activities: North Wales and Lake District are obvious choices. Peak district too is on your doorstep.

City breaks: Liverpool, York, Leeds, Chester are all great cities with excellent food and entertainment.

    Hi

if you've still not decided try looking at this place http://www.hermiston-keswick.co.uk/ The website doesn't do it justice. It's a big bed and breakfast in the village of Braithwaite, two miles away from Keswick (North Lakes) but there is good public transport or as we did it's an easy scenic walk into Keswick. Set in beautiful surroundings with fantastic owners and the best breakfast I have ever had in a bed and breakfast! I had a leaflet from them through the post recently saying that there is a special offer on 3 nights for 2. Not expensive for the experience you will have, around £150 (not 100% sure) for three nights for two people total. Lovely decking area looking out over their vast back garden where you may spot red squirrels, ospreys and other wildlife. Have a look on Tripadvisor at the reviews. Good luck and have a great time wherever you end up.
