If it's connected without an ethernet cable, then wifi is enabled and working!

Wifi on Vista will not work with WPA2. It will only work with WEP.

Fn+F2 WLAN on/off for that model.

Are you running SP2? Upgraded the RAM to 2GB?

Hi TakeThis, just had it running fine for hours wifi, but, sons just come to pick it up.
tested wifi, by rebooting, connecting to my router auto, BUT, cannot get browsers again, not connecting to net?
    sp2, plenty ram.fn+f2 turning wlan on/off ok.
just not connecting to net for some reason now.

Find out what channel the router is broadcasting on - I've had problems with some devices if I used anything above 11.

    Is it ok via Ethernet?

If no and there is no important data, why not run a Factory Restore and then update to SP2 right away.?

Hi TangleFoot, my router is dual band 11and 7, and my laptop picks it up ok, even with a dickie wifi card.
I locked on to g a while ago.
    his runs fine using ethernet to my router, no probs, it,s the first time his pc has been wifi enabled.didn,t know how to enable it;;;
mines ok wifi, but his wouldn,t connect to net, even though it was connected successfully to my router same time as me.
It ran ok for a couple of hours wifi, once it decided to play ball, but when I re-booted,to test wifi stopping on, no net connection, no browser, nothing.
He,s taken it home, to try his new router wifi, it works ok ether on hisrouter ok. I don,t know anything about his router, he,s just had it from primus.Thomson I think, but need to go to his house and check.
    See how he gets on,.

I,ve just put sp2 on, plus loads of other updates as it hasn,t been used online for nearly 2 years.don,t think he has cds to do restore.looks like using ether only, strange how it worked ok for a few hours till I re-booted to test wifi enabled still, which it was.
could be as figment said might have to drop to wep on his router, but I,m wap, and mines ok, so was his for a while;;;using mine.
keep you posted when he tries it at his house/router:beer:

Err... is there something wrong with your keyboard? I don't see any apostrophes anywhere in your posts.

Sorry TangleFoot, bad habit returned again, light fingered syntax. It,s not the first time i,ve been repremanded for it.BUT, it is a brand new keyboard fitted only 2 weeks ago on sons pc by Santander IT guy, pity he didn,t turn wifi on, and keys are tight.Gotta blame something ;;;(shame on me)
However, my Son took it home yesterday, and he says " the wifi is working fine throughout his house", without adjusting his router apparently.
I,ve told hime to make sure it,s secure, so once again, thanks all for your help.cheers.,"!<>:@_-=+| . Yes, they are ok. ha.ha
