Call someone in and get them to do a proper investigation on the mattress and to kill all of the bugs. Get them to write a repot on what he found. If you only got the bed on Monday and the bed has an infestation, then he would be able to say whether it was probable in a week.
If it was likely to have been there already, then write to the company - sending Special Delivery - enclosing the report and tell them you want a refund of the costs incurred in getting the bugs killed and any launderette bills you have incurred because of this. Give them 14 days to respond or else you will take the matter further via the small claims court.
If they have responded after 14 days, great, see what happens and if they take liability.
If they have not responded after 14 days then just start a small claims action and let the judge decide whether they are liable or not.
And then call Consumer Direct and report it - you may not be the first and your report might be the one that gets them investigated.
Good luck in getting it sorted, they are awful things.0 -
Was the new mattress covered in plastic? I wouldn't have thought bedbugs would be able to transfer themselves from old to new if this is the case?0

Just what I was going to say.
And @mrs_sparrow - Recorded delivery rather than Special delivery?
PS - after reading this thread I can't sop scratching. :rotfl:0 -

No, for the sake of a few ££ it means you have control over when it gets there. And recorded does not always get signed for.
PS. I know what you mean!!
PPS. You can add the cost of the postage to the cost of your court claim.0 -
