Anglian Windows GoldPlus-is it a con?

hi,
ive recently had Anglian Windows round to give me a quote on windows. i was told that it would cost me £7400, however if i signed up to their goldplus system where i pay over time , the quote for my windows would only cost me £5900. he went on to say if i signed up to goldplus i could pay it all off after the first month and the cost would be just over £6000. my spidey sense tingled. this seems too convenient to me and im wondering if what he said was true and why do i have to sign up and then pay it off after 1 month to pay in full for a reduced price. im wondering if when i sign up for it there may be a clause where i have to pay more if i want to pay the balance off early. does anybody have any knowledge of their goldplus scheme?

  • we did this and it actually ended up costing a lot more than the guy explained. We had the money in the bank and could of paid it straight away anyhow. I think that what you need to ensure is that the guy writes all the info down for you. how much to pay and on what date . It could be correct what you are being told but I am very doubtful. When I queried the final amount to pay with First National. He told me that he had this all the time people had been conned into this so called deal. The guy didnt write down the info for us he just told us what to do. We could have just got it wrong! Sorry if I have rambled a bit good luck. Also another point to be made is the fitters that came were useless Made a right hash up ended up with a bit of a bodge to make windows that didnt fit to fit. Regards Lisa

The salesmen will do whatever they can to make a sale. As others have said, you need stuff in writing.

It is also true that what the sales people say presents the 'best' face of the company. When the fitters turn up they often just come over as cowboys. The faster they do the job the more jobs they can fit in and the more money they earn. I once had fitters who were running from the lorry to the house carrying the window units.

I have not got much of an opinion of these national double glazing companies, but there are some much better, smaller local firms if you can find one.

i wouldnt touch em with a canal boat stick.
remember yrs ago they cold called on me and said they were doing a local council contract nearby and could give me a really good deal.
got a quote off them and told them i would make a decision next day.
then i called the local council, they told me that anglian windows were not doing any work in the area for them!

    just lying toads.

thanks for the comments guys. i am getting a minimum of 4 quotes including local firms. its a shame there arent rosier comments about Anglian, i quite liked the fact they had Argon filled windows and apparently the windows are A energy rated.
thanks especially to lisa-think i might give the goldplus a miss.

How long did they stay? I got bored after the 1st hour, 3 hours later they finally sussed I was interested. Started with a quote of 7k that everyone else was say 2.5k after 4 hours they were down to 2k but by then I'd lost the will to live...

I have very mixed feelings about anglian windows, we have used them on 2 seperate occasions, once for double glazing through out the house then about 6 months later for a new front door and porch, and on both occasions it ws made quite clear that if we didnt take their finance package it would be afew hundred quid more, it was a big sell that you would only ave to pay the mininum amount then pay it off at the end and therfore you keep your money in you bank acct etc, of course they forget to mention that you would be far better of taking the finance and paying it off straight away, anyway both times the same thing happened get to the end of the year and pay a large lump off only to be told that we still hand hundreds to go, silly us or not reading the small print i guess.

Anyway on the up side I cant fault their workmanship or quality of product, ive refered plenty of people since we had ours done, of course each time making them aware that they need to pay the lump of the loan off asap.

    all the best

lol thanks doozergirl, surely your spidey sense is as sharp.
crox of all the quotes ive had Anglian stayed the longest- i think it was 2 hours but i must point out they were not pushy in any sense and all that he said seemed relevant.
bear thanks for your comment- i quite liked the Anglian product that was shown to me and your plus comments about the product are good to see. as said allready they seemed to be the one company that uses argon filled windows though the dvd i watched said that A energy rated windows were an optional extra(thermoplatic spacer bar instead of metal i believe), yet the salesman said it was wrong and id get A rated windows as standard- got me a little concerned as regards honesty (he assured me on the windows pictures on the quote form he would write A energy rated windows). providing the product turns out to be what i was shown it did seem good

hiya, please shop about before you buy I have heard alot of bad thing about Anglian have a look at

    http://www.diynot.com/forums/

Also rememebr that window companies tell you lots of things that are just sales patter just so you will think they are better. People are getting ripped off regulary by UPVC Companies.
I have just started a upvc company and the first job we got i was astounded, the lady who had her windows done was quoted £6300 then she tried someone else they quoted £4k. We did it for £2450!!! and our workman ship is as good/better than most of the larger companies and we offered the same guarentee. She had to wait a month longer because we are only a small company and we were fully booked but to save £1550 im sure she thought it was worth the wait
