Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a dual policy like this? We both have our own cars, I'm insured on hers although only I drive mine - we've looked and it seems that Tesco is the best deal at the moment (£120 for two cars) but I was wondering if there's anything better out there?

The ones where you pay and then claim it back are tempting, but if I'm honest part of the appeal for me is simply if you find yourself in bad situation (ie break down on the motorway) you know exactly who to call

Cheers :)

Autoaid is easy to pay and reclaim. If you have a credit card you can get your reclaim money before your bill is due. ~£40 for the two of you would save you over £180. You call autoaid when you break down, so you don't need to worry about working out who to call. They have details for the recovery vehicles. I had their policy and it was very easy, honestly.

If you don't want to reclaim go for autonational - Martin also recommends them in his article and they are more like £66 for 15 months - and had cashback via TCB.

No reason to pay over £100 unless you have a more unusual vehicle or need european cover.

    Autoaid is £38 per person.

Thanks, I'm with Lloyds so it's going to be £120 just for my cover (and girlfriend is with Halifax which would be a similar price) - although that does include travel and mobile insurance also, which I don't have right now

AutoAid is a good option, thank you, I would be saving £40 or so (before Quidco) by going with them so it is tempting, it's good to know they actually give you the contact details of places to ring too, I thought it'd just be a case of being stuck in the middle of no where (potentially) with no idea who to call, and then a load of hassle later to claim it back...
  • Try GEM. 2 people can have Recovery Reclaim for £68.95 or Recovery Extra for £89.75. You can also get cashback with Quidco.

As a family of 4 drivers we have used it for several years and found it to be an excellent service. We have Reclaim and I've usually had a cheque back from GEM before I've paid the original bill on a credit card.

It also covers any car you are driving and doesn't have an age restriction on the car.

Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account costs £180 a year. Get a joint account.

You get £60 rebated if you fund it with £1,000 a month. Straight in, straight out.

It includes travel insurance, home start breakdown cover, mobile phone insurance and home emergency cover and a few other frills.

If those things are of value to you it can work out cost effective. If they're not, it's a bad idea!
