Applying online gives error at end of app

I'm trying to apply for a CC with a 0% BT so i can save on the current interest i'm paying but when i go to apply and spend 10 minutes filling in all my details, i get an error saying sorry we are unable to process your application.

Is this just a ploy to get me to ring up an hope i miss some information as i wouldn't be able to see it all in front of me? (cynical head) Is it time sensitive and online applications only process during office hours? (non cynical head) or am i just accessing their sites at a bad time? (usual bad luck head).

To Cynical Head: the reduced processing costs of online applications far outweigh any potential beneift in you missing something in the small print by doing it over the phone, plus over the phone they have to send you the small print if you ask.

To Non-Cynical Head: No, these applications are automagically processed 24 hours a day, except for scheduled server down time for upgrades/repairs. If you apply outside of office hours any manual processing that's required will be queued up automatically for the staff to do in the morning. You can still do the online part of the app, though.

To Bad Luck Head: Probably a fault with their online service. Which bank is it? Also, if you already have a card with them you may get this problem, or if you've applied before with them there may be something 'stuck' in their system with you details attached that's stopping it going through.

heh thanks for the rpely :)

HSBC and then tried Morgan stanley as i'm in two minds over going the tart route or just use the one for the next 3 years. Neither of which i have applied for before though. Thanks for your reply though. Will try before i go to bed :)

Ok just done it again and this time it worked and was successful on the HSBC card.

Now i need to find out if i can put 5 credit card balances on to it (2 of mine, 3 of the wifes)

    2 x Barclaycard (£500 and £1000)
    2 x Capital 1 (£400 and (£500)
    1 x MBNA (£1900)

Should i apply for another card now or is it best to wait to see hwo many i can switch to my new HSBC and then apply for another for remaining card balances?

On all 5 there is remaining credit available and after reading some articles here, am i right in thinking i should use the remaining credit on the lowest APR to pay of the highest APR card/s first before applying to HSBC for the balance transfers?

One thing I would NEVER do is put my partners debt on my card.....if it all goes tits up you'll be left paying for it.

I tried to apply for an HSBC card on line, but just kept going round in circles, so I phoned the number given & did it over the phone. It took an absolute AGE to get the card, and just don't get me started on the call centre... Still, worth doing!

You can put as many cards as you like onto it but obviously this will depend on what limit you are offered. You only have 30 days from when the cards is opened to to the balance transfers at 0% so I would just bear that in mind when deciding what to do with your balances.
Sorry don't really understand the lower APR card paying of the higher one so cant really offer advice. In my simplified mind 0% would be better than a low % but I'm sure someone can answer that who's better qualified than me.
