WARNING - VM superhub users

Options
Just thought is bring this to everybody's attention. Today I found that the power transformer for my super hub felt a good bit hotter than it should. On closer inspection the chap who upgraded my superhub had just plugged it into the transformer for my old Motorola modem instead of using the new one. The problem with this is that the old transformer is only rated to half the power required by the superhub which could lead to overheating - this is not safe!

Looking around the web this doesn't seem to be uncommon. I'd advise anyone who has upgraded to the superhub should check they have the correct power transformer installed and if not get vm to sort it ASAP.

You had a 'chap' to do yours? Mine was self-install.
How do I add a signature?

Unfortunately I'm away for the next few days so I can't get one. The ratings are marked on the transformer though so its easily identified. It needs to be rated for at least 12v at 1.5A - the one I have is only rated for 800 mA and is made by leader electronics I belive.

Figment - yes, a vm techy did it because he was already round installing a tivo box as part of our package upgrade.

One of the techs who replaced my old shark fin modem for one of the smaller modems when 20mb came out did the same thing :(
IIRC NTL (as it was) ended up sending out a whole new modem and adaptor as they didn't supply the adaptors on their own (and the tech who fitted the 50mb modem when we got that was amused by the fact I handed him a boxed, unused spare modem).

It does say on the instructions for the Superhub to use the power supply adapter that comes with it and NOT to use your old one
    Have a nice day :)

The engineer will physically connect the modem but not set up the computer unless you 'upgrade' then it's a self install. The only time they will (or used to when I was there) install to the PC is if you opt for a 'managed install' that costs extra.

I was referring to the install/upgrade to a VM Superhub. Mine arrived by courier in a mahoosive box, which I had to open myself  and setup. I was expecting Richard Branson to pop round and do it for me! :D
