Coral Pass It On - Win but concerned

I won a mini football on this but have had an email asking me to give proof that I'm over 18. They want me to email a copy of either passport, birth cert or driving licence.

I'm concerned about sending this kind of proof what with all the identify theft around!

What do others think? I really would appreciate your views. Thank you

  • Personally I would say that it is Coral, a big company, and their industry is gambling meaning they will have to confirm you are over 18. Your choice but if it was me I would go with it.

If you're concerned, you can always omit the important details that could identify you i.e. passport number etc.

I sent them a photocopy of passport with some details ( not DOB) covered up but have had an email from them saying they need 'the full algorithm along the bottom of the photo page of your passport'.
Im not happy to send the details they need over the internet especially just for a mini football so wont be going any further.
  • Do they ask for this imformation if you are betting on the site?Seems a bit silly over a mini football.

It's standard for a gambling site.
The terms are clearly stated - don't enter if you don't want to comply with T&C's when you win

I have won from other sites that ask for similar info - I took a pic of driving licence with the number covered - and emailed it, that was accepted fine.

Their email to me this morning said they would not accept it with anything covered up.

That's a bit silly. All they need is to see your date of birth.

Erm no it's not "standard for a gambling site" at all. It wasn't required a couple of weeks ago when I won a BET in their bookies from them online ...they just posted me the voucher. ID BEFORE you gamble on a gaming site is standard. Facebook IS NOT a gaming site anyway.

You haven't gambled and none of the prizes have an age restriction, maybe they have had problems with people impersonating winners and claiming prizes which happens quite a lot when apps tell the world you won before the company tells you direct. Maybe not for a football...but the last comp like I said was for bets. Someone I know had a win claimed fraudulently yesterday on FB from a large company....so it's not unlikely. ;)

Another possibility is that recent case when a father / moron lent his kid a credit card and his kid ran up 7 grand playing poker online and obviously got past the verification using his dad's details...a photo ID stops that. So does common sense and not lending kids cards IMO but in this world the majority jump through hoops to avoid the foolishness of the few morons being repeated.
