As said before any change from normal specification is a modification. You also have to tell them if there is an optional extra fitted.
Years ago i remember reading articles when payout was declined because the owners had modified their car and did not tell the insurers. One was refused because he had go faster stripes on the side of his car, the other had a chrome tailpiece on his exhaust and other had alloys from a model above his trim level.
Best to be safe and give them a call.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

If the OP is talking about aftermarket HIDs then these will be an MOT fail if not fitted with self-leveling and washers.
If he's just talking about replacement bulbs, then I wouldn't even bother calling my insurance to tell them I've fitted uprated options tbh.0 -

Ah yes, I haven't read up on it for a while. There was a general consensus that they had to have self-leveling and washers.
Now it seems if self-leveling and washers are fitted they must work.

I just changed the bulbs, same fittings and spec.. phoned the insurers (admiral) chrged me £17.50 p.a. more.. I had already spent 2 hours putting them in, so I just went ahead with it. Had I known theyd charge this much prior I would have just scrapped it. I don't even get to appreciate them because I'm inside the car when the headlights are on..0

Just avoid the cheap budget bulbs. I was reading a test online somewhere. They got some cheap 100W XENON bulbs. In theory they should be too bright and illegal.
The test initially showed they looked bright and lots of glare but the equipment showed they put out less light than standard well known brand 55W bulbs.
The glare was due to a very poor beam pattern.
My MOT guy mentioned cheap bulbs failing a lot. Due to poor beam patterns.
And the cheap so called xenon bulbs with the blue coating actually put out less light.
Nightbreakers or Philips Extremes are about the best without getting silly prices or upgrading further.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
