A bit of advice re a shared roof

Hi I was wondering if anyone could offer advice. IM a bit bamboozled.
My dad passed away 3 weeks ago and was in the process of getting the roof fixed which is to be shared three ways. Dad had his money, one lady has been granted the money and as far as I know the other lady has the money. But there is no quote for the work. The insurance co had been out and estimated the damage and apportioned the money accordingly.

So how do I approach a roofer. Do I just go in and say I have x amount of pounds and do what you can? My mum and dads is the top house and the two other home owners are below. Needless to say the water is !!!!ing in just now and my mum and sisters are lugging water down the stairs. Might I add the neighbours are very amenable, a older lady in each house.

On top of everything else I'm just a bit lost at what to do next.

Any helpfulness much appreciated.

    Sorry about your dad.

Are you saying the insurance co have paid out to the three of you and left you get the work done yourselves?
If so get a few quotes (or do you know anyone who can recommend a tradesman) but don't tell 'em how much you've got. Wait and see what they quote first.

As if getting over your Dad's death wasn't enough....

A phone call to the Insurance company might be a good start. They might have some information on what has happened to date.

Then you probably need to talk to the other ladies and agree how you all want to go forward.

I agree with societys child, that you should get at least 3 quotes, preferably from companies that family/friends/colleagues recommend. Don't necessarily go with the cheapest, go with the one you have most confidence in (assuming you have enough money)

If you have too much on with your Dad's affairs, try putting the organisation back to the insurance co.
  • Thanks for your replies. The insurance co didn't know who had been appointed for the work but the first roofer I spoke to who is local knew about it so thats a help.

Thanks again, sometimes I get so anxious about that roof, especially when it was like the monsoons.
