Cheap Private Hire Insurance

Hi All,
I know there are a few past threads on this already but just wondering if anyone had come across something recently.
So, can anyone recommend any cheap insurance companies for Private Hire Insurance please? I am a new driver and am getting very high quotes.
Also, would I be allowed to use my car for social purposes on the same insurance?
Thanks

I'm afraid all your quotes will be expensive. It's a very small pool of specialists and new entrants can be faced with premiums of between £5k and £10k. Sadly any NCB from ordinary car insurance won't count...you'll be started from new.
Try Cabshield tel. 01382889222. I've found them very good over the years.
And yes, your policy will include private use for social etc. Another thing...about 16 years ago a high court decision meant that by the letter of the law, a PH licensed vehicle could ONLY be driven by a badged driver...at ANY time. Thereby excluding spouses unless they themselves are badged. In practice this is usually left to the local licensing authority to police and if they are happy with a lenient interpretation of the rule then you MAY get cover for a spouse. It depends on your local council. AND you won't have 3rd party cover to drive other cars.
Sorry can't be more positive0 -
Almost £3k for first year on mine but being self-employed you offset that against your income tax.
I'm with Elstree Insurance Services, http://www.elstreeinsuranceservices.co.uk/0 -
w211...that is seriously good! This current year mine has been £2600 with full NCB and 21 years experience. Mind, this IS Merseyside so premiums are very high anyway.
Usalim....w211 is pointing the way!0 -
My Husband is a taxi driver , public and private hire. He always gets insurance from Axa. With Axa he was allowed to use his NCB which he had earnt on his ordinary car policy and so he started off with (I think) something like 7 years NCB.
His most expensive (first year) policy was the first policy and if I recall correctly it was £1200.
Since then he has had 1 fault claim and 2 non fault claims.
This year on renewal his price was £1023.
Very reasonable.
I am also covered to drive the car for SDP purposes as we are in NORTHERN IRELAND AND THAT IS ALLOWED HERE.
op , try Axa. Tel 0800 282820The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Thank you very much all - certainly very helpful comments here.
I'll give these companies a call and hoping for the best0
