Protected no claims bonus with direct line

I found out today that Direct Line had not had the decency to inform me that they were not renewing my car insurance after years of my custom. When I rang they said that despite me protecting 9 years 65% no claims bonus they could only renew the policy for a sum of £981.58p!! This was apparently due to a hit and run driver causing a claim in dec.br 2002, and three claims last year ,all when my wife was driving , she is the other named driver on my policy. They did actually say that because one claim was for only £100, I could maybe buy this one back?????? So apparently although protected, you can only make 2 claims in a 5 year period, without affecting your no claims PROTECTED, bonus. They are now saying I only have 30% no claims bonus or 1 year. Any advice on what to do next and very quickly please. Many thanks,
Foxy0-0.

    Morning,

With Direct Line you can make 1 claim per policy year and a maximum of up to 2 within 3 years without it affecting No Claims, anything out of these limits and it will affect your NCD. e.g having 2 claims in 1 policy year.

    Hope this helps.

I'd accept their offer. It sounds good.

Hi - I don't know your car or age or where you live but I think you should be able to save some money over the direct line price.I assume that you were the "driver" in the hit and run accident ie the person who was last driving the car.It is important to establish that as some companies will not quote for drivers with four incidents but will quote for drivers with 3 incidents.I would suggest you try :-

If by refunding £100 to direct line they will give you 2 years ncd then I would certainly accept that offer.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on or if I can help any more.

PS Beware of persistent E mail offers from quotelinedirect for breakdown insurance etc.
  • Hi, thanks for your advice. If I pay the £100 back to direct line, they have said I will have 3 years no claims bonus! But when I omitt this claim in the confused form it only makes a difference of a fiver?
