8 Month Claim Saga

I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last with this kind of post but am doing so for advice and stress relief.

Late October 2011 my van was hit by a third party whilst parked outside my house. I was watching tv at the time, heard the crash and the van alarm sound. On going outside to investigate it turned out mine was the second parked vehicle to be hit, the other being parked on the opposite side of the road further along.

The young lady driver of the Renault Twingo which hit my van after colliding with the Nissan Qashqai admitted liability, the police attended, details were exchanged and all seemed straight forward. I duly informed my insurance and let everything take its course.

In early January of this year my insurance renewed and I changed company as the old one was no longer competitive. Almost 8 months later I have received a letter from my broker (Hastings Van) stating "We note from our records that we are still outstanding your confirmation regarding a possible non-disclosure of material facts."

A phone call to Hastings revealed that the incident from October was showing on the "insurance database" as my fault and that when I had completed the online proposal I had claimed non-fault (a no brainer I thought at the time).

Further phone calls to Autonet by both myself and Hastings have revealed that the claim is possibly not yet settled and could still be 50/50 ! My question therefore is obvious:-

How Can This Be ?

Only your old insurance company can answer this - you need to find out why the claim is still outstanding and why they want to go 50/50 before you can do anything.
  • Hi TSx,

That's what I'm currently waiting for. I've never entirely trusted insurance companies because of family and friends past experiences and am just anticipating getting turned over myself.

I wonder just how cut and dried a claim has to be sometimes and worry somewhat because I know 'deals' are done between insurers.
