Cheque from Tax Credits office....

After a looong and worrying few months of being wrongly accused of fraudulently claiming TCs as a single parent and being told to repay £6400, the tax credits office repeatedly making mistakes throughout the process (It is such a long story it could never all go down on here!), appealing against their decision and enrolling the help of my local MP, still awaiting a decision, I have just received a cheque in the post for £132, from the TCs office. No letter of explanation, not so much as a compliments slip, just an envelope with a cheque in.
I have never received TCs by cheque before, always direct to my bank. The amount seems random (not my weekly or 4-weekly amount), and I am almost scared to pay it in case its a mistake!
Any ideas?

Posters on this forum could have a guess, I'm sure but no one could answer your query with any certainty. Ring the helpline - pretty sure they are open today

It may be a refund of tax rather than anything to do with Tax Credits. If it says Pay as You Earn or PAYE at the top of the cheque that means its a tax refundThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes its definitely from them, it says it on the 'return to' address on the back of the envelope. I just called them.... surprise surprise they dont know who issued it, what its for, or why its come as a cheque!0
