Cost of meats in France

Hi all,
Can anybody tell me if the cost of meats from supermarkets in France is comparable with the UK? We are diving to the south of France next week and I am thinking of taking a cool box with some fresh/frozen meat in.
We will have 5 BBQ's over the week so if there is a big difference in the cost of decent quality steak, chicken, lamb etc (not so much of a burger and sausage man) it could be a big saving.
Can anybody shed any light on the subject?
thanks

Fresh chicken 1.2 Kilo from around €3.60 upwards in France if that helps.
I never think of it as being very expensive (depending where you shop),
but they don't have the BIG promotions/discounts you get in the UK sometimes.0 -
Our experience is that meat is more expensive in France.
Try looking in Aldi, they seem to be the cheapest supermarket although the range isn't as good as the domestic chains like E.Lelerc and similar.0 -

This should give you an idea of prices in general (just close the pop-ups)

Dear OP,
I live in the lake Geneva region and cross the border (into France) to go food shopping. IMO, meat is a bit more expensive in France than in the UK, although the choice available is far wider (not difficult to find rabbit, wild boar, goose etc....and wild boar on the BBQ is delicious!)
If you go to one of the discount supermarkets such as ED or Dia, you should be able to find what you want for a reasonable price. Or pay a little more at a 'grande surface' like Auchan, Leclerc or Carrefour.
Enjoy your holiday - the south of France is wonderful!
TQ
