DON'T GIVE UP. You are only 20, your whole life is ahead of you and look, you are already so much wiser than most people your age.

You can't do anything today so first thing Monday ring citizens advice and/or CCCS, it all free and you'll have the reassurance of knowing they've seen it all before and worse.

Most people your age are prob at home being helped along by the bank of mum and dad, they'll go through this in their mid-late twenties by which time you'll be fully solvent again.

Stay on here, it's the best place to be. Perhaps read some of the diaries so you know you're not alone in this?

Thanks for such a lovely response.

It isn't making me feel wise, making me feel like a failure. I was adamant to move out and yet look at the mess I've gotten into :(

Everyone else is getting to go out and have fun and care free, and I have to think "does that night out mean we can't pay this bill"

Definitely call your power company, we found the one from my boyfriends old address were very happy to sort out a payment plan. He owed them just under £400 and they agreed to take it in 4 monthly installments with no interest. It was worth the phonecall. :)

Sadly the Council were less happy to sort out an arrangement and we had to get that paid back in one go.

Best of luck getting it all sorted.

just go bankrupt, its so simple. youre only 20 so by 26 you will be able to have a mortgage and everything.

good job that not everyone thinks like this.

Maybe the OP wants to repay her debts that they ran up and well done for doing so.

Bankruptcy should be a very last resort. When you go bankrupt its not just your debts that are wiped those owed lose out with the potential for job losses and then the circle gets bigger.

    Thanks :)

Have actually spoken to them and they're finally sorting out a final bill for us (none of their team had bothered noting down the call that included the fact we'd moved out of the property 3months ago!), they want 20-25% of the bill before they'll set up a repayment plan. Got to wait til the bill comes through and pay day before I can do anything else.

I think it's fairly normal to come on here in a rush of enthusiasm and start to sort yourself out, and then a few more things come out of the woodwork and you feel discomforted. It doesn't mean you won't get through it, just that it won't all magically disappear. You will be able to make things better for yourself long term but there will be slip ups on the way.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

You're not a failure because you're brave enough to face up to it all. Blimey, I'm over twice your age and it's taken me all this time to get it!!
