OP, please disregard business_man's snide comments - he has a terminal dislike of anyone who even mentions HB and has been roundly rebuked for this type of sarcastic and unnecessary remark in the past.
b_m, OP is obviously struggling, both her and hubby working 2 jobs and trying to care for sick parents, cut them a little slack!
thank you , i know there are many people around like him , i have been reading some forums where posters are openly saying they are looking forward to when people get their homes repossessed so they can buy them cheap, some people take great pleasure in others misfortunes , i have no problem with people claiming help, our business used to have a £250000 turnover ,we had 10 outlets , now down to one, we were very good to our staff and helped as much as we could, many of them still visit us and feel very sad that it has come to this, but this is the way life works sometimes we have everything sometimes we have next to nothing .
I could never rejoice in others misfortunes, especially while times are hard you would think we would all feel the same about helping others .0 -
we are trying to do what is best, there is a lot more going on than just this which i cannot and prefer not to mention .Are you being realistic about the situation if you sell your house - if you have a surplus, you might be over the savings threshold for claiming housing benefit, but if you are in negative equity you might not be able sell. And have you factored the cost of moving - solicitor's fees, estate agents fees etc?0 -

Wait for the day when these benefits stop and British economy recovers.
I think we have paid enough into the system over the years, we had ten outlets only a few years back and paid our fair share, i don't think it is a crime to want some help when i am in need, i have never been bitter about people claiming help as this is why we pay into the system.
You really need to take a look at your attitude you may one day need the same help as me and my husband, as once we had a thriving business with a turn over of £250000 now we are down to almost nothing, don't think it can't happen to you because it can the tide can turn very quickly , i actually think people like you are the ones claiming every benefit you can lay your hands on and just live in cloud cuckoo land .0 -
Although it's a street you hate, would living there give you the opportunity to save for another house in the future? What was it about the street that you hated?
As you have the opportunity of a long term let, the house being owned by somebody you know, you wouldn't have the same worry about having to look for a new home every 6-12months because landlord wanted the place back.
If you are struggling financially now, wouldn't it be better for both you and your husbands mental well being to have the financial burden lifted?
As another poster mentioned, list the positives and negatives about moving to this house & see if that helps you reach a decision. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

i didn't like it before because it has sad memories which include my brother dying suddenly and other things, but we think it is a good opportunity to save for another house and this way we can be in control of our debts without the fear of another charge going on the house . At the moment we have had to go onto interest only mortgage and as things are we cannot see it going back onto repayment so we are renting it in effect .
I know this is not the best and most sensible way of going about it ,but we are thinking of just leaving the house and telling the mortgage provider that we cannot afford to live in it anymore , we also understand that any shortfall from a sale would come back to us, but it would still be an unsecured debt so we would be able to come to an arrangement to repay it .0 -
Is there any possibility that your parents could sell their house and move in with you instead?
They could then pay you rent which would help with your finances.0 -

No they can't do that because i have two brothers and the house is being split between us three when they pass , but i couldn't stand them around me all the time , my lovely dad has parkinson's and mum can hardly walk and they both like their own space too .0
