changing rent date...

hi,
our rent is due on the 4th of each month but we only get paid on the 15th and 20th respectively, since our first month of rent we have only feasibly been able to pay on the 15th meaning that we now incur £35 of late charges each month which we just pay on top of the rent. the landlord is unwilling to change the date without upfront payment to cover rent from the 4th to the 15th, but we just can't afford that extra expenditure in a month, i've asked for it to be added on at the end to the end of the contract or taken out of the deposit but they won't budge at all! any suggestions?

The LL cant charge for late rent. Stop paying that immediately.0

How many £35 charges equate to a months rent. Work out the maths.
Try hard to pay it when they say, do you not have any savings you could take it out of.
It would only happen for 1 month.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
They can't take it out of your deposit if it's protected. The deposit is to settle discrepancies at the end of your tenancy, taking money out of that now would leave them with less protection further down the line.
I'd suggest you save some money each month and get in a position were you can pay the rent on the 4th. As a couple this will likely be a quicker process than if you were single.
Without a reasonably sized reserve fund (say a month or two's rent) you will always be at the mercy of unexpected expenses.0 -

Your inability to put money aside is not their concern. The chances are they have the mortgage payments coming out of their bank not long after the rent due date.
You signed an agreement stating the rent is due on the 4th. It is up to you to make sure that you pay it then.
TBH if I were your LL and you couldn't find 11 days rent to cover the changeover, I sure as hell wouldn't be wanting to add it onto the end of the contract because there's no guarantee I would get it as you're obviously living hand to mouth.0
