    Bear in mind you'll be 5 years older and have held your licence an extra 4 years as well, which will probably cancel out the loss of no claims.

    Yes. It has to be a policy in your name, it's no use being a named driver on another policy.

    Depending on where you're going, take you car abroad. Come back once or twice to re tax and mot it, and you can drive abroad with third party cover for the year. You may fall foul of the fact you should export it/import it there if it's over six months, but it's unlikely they'll ever catch you.

    The UK's 'insuring the driver' system is fairly unique, as is the ridiculous amount that it costs here. You'll probably be pleasantly relieved at the cost of insurance elsewhere. Where are you thinking of going incidentally?
