Yodel

Options
I was wondering whether someone could give me some help.

Ordered a book, dvd and cd from Amazon. They inturn sent it by Yodel with a delivery date of Monday 18th June. I had an email on 13th June from Amazon saying it was despatched and gave me a tracking number.

I started tracking. Picked up at 00.01 13 June 2012 from Glasgow by Yodel. Checked Thursday 14 June 2012, and said 04.26 at Wednesday HUB. Checked yesterday 15 June 2012 08.09 Wrexham out for delivery.

We wented in, and guess what nothing. Checked the tracking still saying out for delivery. We checked the website at 7.00pm still saying out for delivery and again at 07.59 (I know this because the football was just about to start).

The wife checked again at 8.10 that everning, she thought I hadn't checked it. Screams, there it was, there computer system updated, 13.26 Delivered and signed for by SOM.

Furious, I tried ring a geographical number and yes, the geographical number now says number unavailable and please ring a 0871 number. Tried for 5 minutes at 10p a minute, tried again for another 5 minutes at the 0871 number, no one answering. Wife found a 080 number, did get through eventually and was told "only a parcel" and as far as they were concerned it was delivered end of story.

Before this happened I did ring Amazon at about 3.30 in the afternoon, for them to check it was being delivered today (as I know from past experience, Yodel do knock off deliveries on Friday at 3.00 to go back to depot). He couldn't get through to Yodel, and sent them an email.

My wife was ringing Amazon, while I was trying to get through to Yodel, and they told her they couldn't do anything.

Well 3rd time of trying, I rang Amazon myself. They didn't seem surprised, but agreed it was very unprofessional and would be taking it up with Yodel.

They had to refund me, for the CD and DVD as they were not in stock, and I had an email to that effect at 07.45 this morning.

The book has been reordered and has been scaled up to first class priority, and saying should be despatched today, hopefully by Royal Mail.

The help I need is

what is SOM? - a work colleague says its Signed By Someone Else code.

But if that is the case, has anyone else had this before, and what was the outcome.

To me, and I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it looks like the delivery person, wanted to knock off early on Friday and signed SOM.

And my parcel, probably being sold in the pub on Friday/Saturday night, and if not sold then Sunday at a car boot!

Has anyone else had this happen?

Surely this is theft and the police should be informed?

Any help please

I don't know Yodels internal terminology but it may just mean that it's back at the depot and will be delivered another day, you were told it would be delivered on the 18th and it's only the 16th today so I don't quite get why you are so worried at this stage

Yodel's tracking is, to put it bluntly, just the barest guess at where the item is in the system.

It's most likely on a secondary courier's (read bloke/woman in a car) back seat until Monday.

If you ring them they have no idea, just wait until Monday, if it doesn't arrive, ring Amazon and get it re-sent. Don't worry Amazon know the drill as it's built into their contract with Yodel that stuff 'disappears' - it's the price of having a cheap courier like Yodel.

Yodel only deliver Mon-Fri, but from personal experience, (and as stated on their website) they can deliver up until 9.00pm.

They don't come in their van at that time, it's usually someone in a private car. I think the vans are only used to deliver very large parcels, or more usually drop a load of small parcels at someones house who then go and deliver them in the evening.

    Thanks Teffers.

While writing this had a call from Yodel, faint!!

SOM means that someone else has signed for it, the driver didn't take down the persons name of whom signed for it, they must log this. Also they MUST log where the parcel has been left, at which address, if not left at the intended address

Apparently the driver has broken the rules, and an investigation is being launched.

To me, it looks like the driver was under investigation (done this sort of thing before), by the tone of the phone call and to get a phone call from Yodel. Seem to be jumping through some hoops!

Teffer also I think you were right, it sounds like a contracted out driver by what Yodel were suggesting.

I was told by Yodel that, if there is any problems with a delivery ring them first, they put a marker next to delivery. Then ring Amazon they will put a marker against the delivery. Markers match up. Wam bam, an investigation starts.

Yodel also informed me there would be no delivery on Monday even if they find the parcel, if will go towards the investigation as evidence

As Amazon have already refunded you for the CD & DVD, and have re-sent the book then you have no right to the original goods sent.

If Yodel do ever find them, I suspect Amazon would now want Yodel to return them not give them to you.
